I reckon the two pints of the Red Fox Ruby Red Mild (at 6.9%) were probably your (literal) downfall.

JohnT,
Just as another way of putting Del's help, when you click on the 'Insert Hyperlink' button you get this code entered in to your post (but with square brackets rather than curly ones):
{url}{/url}

Insert your hyperlink before the first close bracket and write something interesting after it but before the next open bracket:
{url=http://connect.garmin.com/activity/124649625} This is my route for that night{/url}

Now with curly brackets replaced with square brackets it looks like this:
This is my route for that night

To share your Garmin routes you'll need to change the public access permission either in your default settings or for ride-by-ride if you only want to share specific rides; it's the padlock icon just above the summary box that the tip info changes to 'Activity Privacy' when you hover over it.

Dad says he's flying into a WW1 airfield at Stow Maries tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

I think that's somewhere reasonably near mid-Essex and might have a pootle over there.

There's a pub there, I believe (which Dad won't be able to booze at, the 24 hours between bottle & throttle issue); anything else to see there?

It's the Prince of Wales. Really can't think of much else, Maldon's on the up tho.

Yes, just looked on Google, nothing much there. Dad will just be standing around talking aeroplanes but I thought it might be quite amusing to arrive unannounced!

Distance-wise I think it might be car-assisted cycling. I don't like cycling round Maldon, too hilly!

You were our first MEMWNS outing to that pub at Stow Maries (ThePrince of Wales).  It was the first properly cold night of that year and I was somewhat underdressed.

In terms of other stuff round there, I can't think of much.  The view across the Essex plains is quite good if you head from there across towards E. Hanningfield via Creephedge lane IIRC (there's a reasonable chance i'm confused and the view I'm thinking of came at another section of the ride I'm part-remembering).

You'd be about 15 miles away from St Peter on the Wall, but I suspect that you will already have visited there at least once.

Well remembered Oaky!

It looks like it will just be a flying visit (ho ho) from me to the airfield to say hello - haven't met his new plane yet. I may start at Rettendon for a laff, or perhaps even Tiptree (although that would require Hills to be ascended in the vicinity of Maldon).

The PoW has a bread oven which they use to make pizzas on a Thursday night. It might be an old Ridleys pub as I gather they used to double up as bakeries back in the day.

I was wondering the same thing but wanted to be home earlier and in a more sober state!  What about the the King Willy, Notley Green?  They sometimes do pork pies!

I haven't been there for a looong time!

Also in that general area is The White Heart in Little Waltham (which was mentioned the other week) which is now run by a Spanish bloke and serves tapas. Might be good to nibble on some of that if they serve into the evening...

Having cycled past the White Hart at Lt. Waltham a number of times it seems like an ideal opportunity to see what the inside looks like!

I feel honourbound to be out this Wednesday on the new steed seeing as it has finally arrived and had its first 25 mile ride which included North Hill but no pub - need to put that second bit right!

By the way, here it is

And a short photo story so far can be seen here

Nice bike Huggy  :thumbsup:

It's been a while since I've been out for a night ride so hoping work behaves and I'll be out this Wednesday.

Do I get an entry in the MEMWNS history book if I walk to this one  :o
