Rode through a load of unavoidable white stuff. Thought it was milk. Seems to be paint  >:( Hope the tyres are not ruined. Rollocks.

Why is everyone wearing high-viz waterproofs?  ??? Sun is splitting the trees.

Bit nippy to start with, but a great day to be out riding.  Usual numpties, but I was back on my normal bike, and zooming along as fast as on the skinny tyred forum bike.  And it's so comfortable!  Gosh, I love that bike! :-*
Getting there...

Despite the appalling traffic and crowds of, as others have observed, fluorescent rain-jacketed cyclists whose riding style and general road sense and courtesy are perhaps not quite what we would all aspire to, today's commute was nearly perfect.  Fresh, bright, a gentle headwind to make sure I didn't get too lazy, a cheery chap who tinkled his bell at me because I think he wanted to squeeze past the traffic waiting at the red light and he clearly thought that his bike would fit where mine definitely wouldn't, and who grinned when I turned round and rang my bell back at him; splendid bright views across the Thames, nose-to-tail traffic on Waterloo Bridge (and therefore a good opportunity to practise low speed bike-handling skills).

Only marred by the fact that our trainee (yes, the patronising helmet-preaching one) has locked her stupid bike in the place where I like to lock mine.  If the ride hadn't been so agreeable, I might have been tempted to take advantage of the fact that the way she had locked her bike up would have enabled me to turn her bike completely upside down and out of my way.

Nice ride in today although disappointed not to witness any of the type of wardrobe malfunctions described yesterday :( Roads were quiet and drivers gave plenty of space, just the I encountered on Parliament Square who decided to dart in front of me  ::-)

I noticed a lot more riders today, and some of them were really quite fast!

All the rain-jacketed ones must be boiling. Such gorgeous weather, I am just in a longsleeved jersey at the moment. And hopefully 3/4s that don't show any more than they're supposed to!

Also went over Waterloo Bridge, hate the traffic there at the moment. I think I p*ss off others because I filter quite cautiously, but there are cyclists nipping in and out everywhere so you have to. A fakenger-type squeezed past on my left, almost clipping me, and then tried to squeeze through another gap between a bus and a moped just as the moped was moving, clipping his back wheel on the moped's front wheel quite hard. He did eventually raise his hand to say sorry (a cynic might say it was when he realized he was stuck right in front of the moped after that as there really was no more space). Eejit.

Yesterday there was a mother (or nanny/au pair of some sort) screaming hysterically at her two little kids on Albert Embankment - they were running off down the road quite a way ahead of her paying no attention whatsoever. A cyclist in front of me caught them up, stopped and told them 'Go back to your mother NOW!' very firmly. They looked slightly dumbstruck and stopped for a minute before turning round and heading back.

On the way home last night

A transit van passes me, with a small car very close behind. What's that between them? Ah, 10ft of blue poly rope.

Towing with a bit of crappy poly rope, at 60mph on a dual carriageway.

Colder than I thought it might be, knees and shins chilly. Head ok.

Daily numpty was the woman driving east on the Southery-Feltwell road (straight & Fen-bumpy) at least at the speed limit, busily applying skin cleanser to her face whilst looking at herself in the sun visor mirror.  >:(  Luckily for me, I was travelling west.

Last night, as I exited a set of lights, road narrows from 2 lanes to one, car ahead turning right.  Poxy little golf tries passing me, realises he is not going to get past car that is turning right so he swerves hard left, whilst alongside me.  Cue "OI!!!" from me, I accelerate so I am in front of said numpty and then turn around a scream "Fuckwit" at him.  His destination? The row of shops on the lefthand side, the entrance to which is just beyond where the other car is turning right!!!!

This morning it was cold, even more so as I had left both my windproof jacket and my gilet at work!!! So a slower than normal ride in...

I certainly couldn't cycle in any sort of waterproof at the moment.  I've been cycling in with a short sleeved jersey, and if it's later on my way home, put my thin fleece over the top of that.

I was sort of amused by a motorcyclists this morning, who was trying to fit between a moving bus and articulated lorry around here (Streatham High Road, near the Ice Rink).  Once that bus had pulled up, he zoomed forwards a couple of hundred feet, and tried it on again with a coach and some other traffic.  A total idiot.  If he'd managed to get in between them, the risk of being crushed as traffic was moving was not insignificant.  The first bus driver obviously saw what he was doing and put his right indicator on, not that it stopped him.

Ho hum, at least he wasn't threatening my life, mainly just his own.
Actually, it is rocket science.

It was a lovely, if chilly, ride today and there were definitely more cyclists than usual, mostly female :)

I knew there was a reason I should have cycled....

Passenger in the car at J4 of the M3, on the roundabout when the two vehicles infront decided to collide.

The Securicor van decided he was going to go round the roundabout further from lane 3 of 4. the astra van in lane 4 was taking the fourth lane of the exit and suddenly found himself with the securicor van trying to enter the left side of his vehicle. Fortunately we were going further round and the astra avoided the barriers as he found his backend knocked sideways and then caught the van as it snapped the other way.

I got dropped off at the entrance to the business park and returned to the scene to provide details as a witness.

.... I don't go that way when I cycle.

Bike dipping season?

Or were you caught up in a biohazard emergency exercise?  ;D

Biohazard. And no exercise, this is for real. Honestly. We have suspect classical swine fever. It's notifiable.
AH have us on lock-down pending confirm or deny.
Realistically, it shouldn't be that, but better safe than sorry.

Not good, I presume you have seen farmer's cars and 4X4's from the period of F&M?  That disinfectant really brings out the tinworm....

Just make sure you give it a really really good wash off as soon as poss.

Good run last night.  Fast type from Burford on a kinetic-one soot bike caught up with me about 2 miles in and kept me company (and had the charity not to push it too hard) until Netherton where MrsLurk was waiting to escort me the last 5 miles or so home whereat he disappeared in a (red-shifted) cloud of dust while me & MrsLurk bimbled home.

Another chilly run in this AM, but bonus Barn Owl spotting.

Work at home today so my 'commute' was a quick lap of Richmond Park. Lovely still, crisp morning with a touch of frost on the ground. At one point found myself riding in a cloud of parakeets :)
