Author Topic: Arcus 180 Battery flaw as Brompton lamp: AAs too heavy for plastic....  (Read 1569 times)

On a Brompton L-type, the light could be partially hidden (for distant viewers) by the mudguard - it needs to have the emitter high enough up to peek over the top, so  I fitted a Spanninga Arcus 180 (with LED at the top) rather than the official Brompton (Spanninga Eclipse) lamp:

My dynamo Arcuss' were/are OK (apart from each standlight cap needing resoldered) but I may have discovered why Brompton didn't choose the (Battery) Arcus as the official  lamp:

my L's battery Arcus fractured around the backplate: the plastic was too thin to cope with the weight of 2AA cells:

a spare backplate and some reinforcing shall be needed.....

Lithium cells are much lighter.

The Brompton lamp is OK if you slide it all the way up the slots on the bracket.
