A small piece of good news, but it made me smile a lot.

I like Red Pepper magazine (well, I would, wouldn't I?), and bought it from the first edition onwards.  I even had a subscription for a short while.

But it seemed to have gone the way of so many left magazines, stuffed by right-wing (yes, we don't need the argument, just accept there's a track record) distributors having a monopoly and strangling circulation.

It's about three years since I've seen a copy on the shelf.  But I spotted one yesterday in, of all places, WH Smith in Sutton.  Bought it straight away and took it home for a good read :)

I hope this, and the reappearance of the Morning Star on the newspaper racks are signs of a thaw. :)
Getting there...

I have just had a phone call from my brother. This morning, my 39-year-old niece gave birth to a strapping boy, her first-born. All, it seems, are doing well.

After saving like the clappers (clappers can save you know  :P) we had an amazing bit of luck and got Barbara a Volvo V40 Estate in excellent nick and a reasonable price, this means we can take the trikes and broaden our horizons, leaves room for lots of food as well   ;D
The problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so sure of themselves, and wiser men so full of doubt.

Yes, a least London is relatively achievable for me. The last time I lived in Oxfordshire the New Theatre was a regular stop on the circuit. Sadly seems to hav enclosed as a music venue.

Heard any of the new album yet?

AWL Jr went to an all-day swimming gala today. 7 races, 7 medals (3 golds, 4 silvers).

I am a proud dad! Though I must take a cushion to the next one. 8 hours in a leisure centre seat took its toll :)

There are happy Things! Katina (our Santana tandem), has been mended
She still needs to have a new lacquer coat, be shipped back to Northern California and be built back up, but it looks like we'll get her back in time for our first 600 of the season.  ;D

Following on from my niece's success above, we have just taken the call to let us know that we are the proud grandparents of a hobbit, a 9lb boy born by caesarian section (good decision) some time this morning. He has full head of curly brown hair. I spoke to our daughter who sounded knackered but relieved. He has successfully fed for an hour. The painkillers, of course, have now worn off and there are lots of stomach muscles involved in the act of breastfeeding.

So the next time I'm in a pub with a lot of YACFers, we'll have a small celebration.

As it happens, a good friend of mine, known to a few folk round here (especially those who came to Wing the first time) has also had a baby by c-section this morning.  Delilah.
