Centring tyres on Dunlop hookless rims
« on: 12 October, 2021, 09:13:24 pm »
You thought hookless rims were new?  Haha.  The Moulton F-frame has them, and the chap who sold it to me fitted some new Kenda tyres.  They're lumpy as hell and don't seat evenly.  Max pressure says 55psi although they're currently sitting at 70psi in the hope they might even out a bit.

Any tips?  I've tried manipulating the tyre (squeezing it, trying to pull the low spot out) at low pressure.  Of course, it might just be a really uneven carcass.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

Try to reduce friction between beads/sidewall and the rim - talc is the common trick (although hellerman oil would be better). Kenda tyres tend to be very tacky feeling compound so will grab on first points of contact between tyre and rim
Take tyre up to a pressure where it takes a shape but is still moveable on the rim and manipulate, once happy with the fit take the pressure up and recheck the fit. Repeat until your happy or have given up.
With use the tyres age and get dirty so it's less of a problem after a while.
