Edge 705 Mount
« on: 04 June, 2012, 06:11:14 pm »
Hi,

I have my 705 mounted on the stem as its right in my centre line of sight and it 'feels' better protected there. However I want to use it with a TeckNet battery pack in a tribag but when I do there is not enough space under the unit for the mini USB plug to insert.

How do people mount their units/what USB cables do you have to overcome this problem or will I have to accept I will need to remount it on the bars.

TIA
The older you get, the better you get, unless you are a banana.

My Edge mounts are on the bars of each bike. This isn't a huge problem for me because my lights are fork crown mounted so plenty of bar real estate available.
You could use something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ex-Pro-Angled-Degree-connection-cable/dp/B001FOBG6C
I think you would need to make the mount a little higher than it is as standard on the stem by putting a thick rubber shim under it.

Those cables are cheaper on eBay:

If the right-angled plug is still to bulky, it looks like some of the plastic could be removed with a bit of the old ultra-violence ...or a file.

I have my 705 stem mounted and use a battery pack with a normal mini-USB cable. I have the 705 mount as far forward as it will go on the stem and I find I can insert the mini-usb cable OK. This may be because my (drop) bars aren't 31.8mm oversized.

Another option could be to put something between the mount and the stem (a piece of wood/plastic) to raise the 705 up a bit. There should then be enough room for cable insertion.
