I met him when I was at University, and spending some abortive time trying to live as myself, which just resulted in getting a few kickings. He was along for a rag week event he had been hired for, and we had a very, very short chat just as he was going on stage (I was also doing a skit).

He clearly saw me for what I am. He smiled and wished me well, with what seemed absolute sincerity.

Yup. Thirty seconds of an encounter, but I still hold it dear. What a lovely man.

Is this an appropriate moment to say that for years I thought his name was Timbrooke Taylor?

Which sounds to me like a brand of tea. Brooke Bond, I suppose. I don't know if he was a tea drinker but he's a bit like a cup of tea for me.

Impossible question, what do “the goodies file (el cheapo edition)”, “Badjelly the witch”, “close encounters of 3rd kind” and “Star Wars” all have in common ?

No idea, but watching some of the Goodies stuff now, it's a bit like the Clangers or Monty Python sketches (not the films, I think); it's not really that funny but it's interesting and amusing in a slightly surreal way.

Much like riding a 1970s bicycle.

Things have moved on, but back then it was amazing.

It was. Even my father laughed at it.  I thought they let themselves down a bit with the Funky Gibbon, though.

My dear wife listens to a lot of radio. Last night, an episode of "Hello Cheeky" aired. This had hitherto passed me by, and I'm really pleased it did. It was so dire that we had to turn it off. I was quite disappointed that TB-T was associated with such trash.

Some of The Goodies songs were funny and quite clever I thought.  I still have a cassette they released.  This was a favourite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24K9EQfQZSE

I've watched a few Goodies videos with my kids.  Some of the material has dated, but the concept of 3 contrasting characters in an increasingly bizarre plot continues - eg Red Dwarf.  It was my favourite TV show at the time it aired - "The Bunfight at the O.K Tea Rooms"
