The Filip/Naomi story is the most annoying thing in the book. It's a poor vehicle and they drag it out for far too long.
Laconia/Proto-molecule is mostly in subsequent books, but to be honest, I think they're the weakest in the series and if they don't make any more TV seasons, I think they ended it as well as they could. (Although they do manage to tie up the ending nicely in the books).

So I've been binge watching.

I have an excellent appetite for animated stuff. This week I have managed

Tales of Vox Machina
Totally over the top, irreverent, obscene fun. Story of a group of disfunctional, usually drunk, mercenaries in a sword and sorcery fantasy world.

Invincible
If you read superhero comics as a kid, this is for you. Not much humour, very dark and gory. Not many animated programs get an 18 rating.

Servant of the People (Volodymyr Zelenskyy / life imitating art) has dropped onto All4.

May be a bit close to the bone...

We've been watching a Bulgarian Police procedural on All4 The Devils Throat  Nice and pacy and a great sense of place.

ETA And very good it was too, and I learnt about the forced change of names the state imposed on ethnic Turk and Arab Muslims. All in living memory.

It's a bit cringeworthy to western eyes. The casual normalisation of corruption and sycophancy is stark.

We've really enjoyed Stanley Tucci; Searching for Italy  Ok, it's a luvy food travelogue, but a cut above the usual. A pleasant way to pass 45 minutes.

Coming up next Saturday on BBC4, the third and final series of “Hidden” already aired in Welsh. IMO not as good as Hinterland was (it’s more “whydunnit” as opposed to “whodunnit”) it’s still worth watching.

I've still got the previous series sitting on the PVR to watch. I seem to remember starting it just after lockdown and deciding it was too depressing at the time.

I watched the first episode of this new series of Hidden and it didn’t grab me at all (I have watched all the previous series). Is it worth me persevering?

I'm watching that, after having watched Winter on Fire on Netflix - behind the barricades in Maidan Square, 2013/2014. They seem a determined lot, those Ukranians.

I binged the new splinter show from the Boys Diabolical on Prime recently. If you enjoyed the comics and found the real life version a bit tame, give this a go.

BBC4 Storyville - The Truffle Hunters

A slow and beautiful film about elderly truffle hunters in Piedmont. The bits where the guy below talks to his dog about finding someone to look after her when he dies made me quite emotional.

I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Watched the finale of Killing Eve, which I found underwhelming.

We quit midway through the last series, it just didn't grip any more.
