For ease of spotting, RichF had a good idea, bungeeing his folded jersey on top of his bags, so 'YACF' can be seen clearly for a fair distance

I only saw (recognised?) Bottlemasher out of that lot.  How I forgot to list him, I have no idea. :-[

No, that wasn't Butterfly.  But if there are Clarionettes in the area, be sure to shout 'Boots!' at them and get their details - very few of us in that there london village.

It's a traditional Clarion greeting.  I shall dig up the reference shortly.

Yeah - that's what they'll do ;) ;D. Although best of luck if you manage to find one who knows the correct answer and is willing to give it on Fulham Road ;D.

Baaaasically, Robert Blatchford (Nunquam), the editor of the Clarion newspaper was an ex-army chap.  It was the tradition in the army to tell stories after lights out, but the teller had no way of knowing if his audience were still awake.  So, periodically, he would call out 'Boots!', to which all should reply 'Spurs!'.

Years later, after the formation of the cycling club, they decided to arrange a pissup meet in Ashbourne.  As the riders arrived, the local members could identify them from their badges, greet them, and guide them to the venue.  But, as it got dark, it became more difficult to discern the members.

Putting their heads together, the stewards realised that anyone who was a Clarion CC member was also a reader of The Clarion, and therefore also familiar with Nunquam's tales.  So, as the riders rolled in, they called out 'Boots!', and, if the cyclist responded, 'Spurs!', they were welcomed.

Thus, the traditional greeting for Clarion CC members is 'Boots!' 'Spurs!'.  It is used to this day (well, it was when we met the Brighton & Hove section for a ride.  I used it ;D )

I can't help thinking there should be a YACF equivalent, possibly involving cries of 'Cake'. ;D
Actually, it is rocket science.

Last Friday (28 August) at about 9.30 - 10.00 p.m., heading NE on the A343 near Abbots Ann...

How did you spot her? I had to pause it and it still took me a few seconds.

Mattc & DrBru (with his Irn Bru jersey), on the Alan Furley Down the Ups today - except Matt wasn't on the ride, just keeping DrBru company for part of it.

I made history, by doing a Brevet Populaire the day before it was run. Or maybe I was given the wrong brevet card. ;D It made the info controls more interesting, not having the questions.

Wasn't that very same cry once suggested on the old C+ forum?  Or perhaps the cry was Cake Stop.  I can't remember.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

I don't remember it coming up on a previous forum, but clearly if it's been thought of multiple times, it is the correct cry.  Dunno about the response though: "Yes please" ? ;D

This was a pretty impressive spot if I do say so myself. Ed_O_Brain was doing the Manchester 100 and I was doing support for a few our local club. At the halfway stage I was chatting with the other support crew and casually checking out the bikes coming in and there were thousands of the bl**dy things. All of a sudden I spot a fixed, check the brand, Pearson and shout DANIEL at the top of my voice and YES, it was the man himself. Great to meet you, if only briefly, I hope you enjoyed the rest of the ride.
