Relaxing in a X-country HST heading back north after an awesome day playing
God Signalman in Bodmin General. Time off for good behaviour -
the "Responsible Officer" said that she'd take over the signalling for the
last train of the day, and the putting-them-all-back-in-their-sheds after, so
that I could catch an earlier (and much faster) train back to Derby. I had been
there since 0745, having arrived on the Sleeper from Up London.
[GPS woke up just as the Sleeper was going through Ealing at midnight last
night. So I mentally waved at Charlotte & Julian.]
One other trainee signalman came into the box just about then, asking the RO if
there were any spare days. So I said "You can have the rest of today"! He'd
had a bit of a set-to with his other half, leaving the house with the words
"I'm going down the railway".
(I think I quite like being single. Maybe someone can prove me wrong. Please?)
Then the train crew let me have a cab ride! So the Brompton
got folded into the Guard's Van, and I went up the sharp end. It certainly
made me feel part of the family.
