Greggs axes hot cross buns

Greegs is infested at senior levels now by left wing women. Example, Greggs was a small chain in Newcastle when I was growing up, Greggs of Gosforth. Then expanded and brought in a bunch of clowns. Two of the Greggs products whis=ch are delicious, a corned beef bake and a minced beef and onion pie are not sold in the sout because soe stupid marketing wamn decided that southereners would not like them. Also, the Stotty Cake, yet again more stupid female execiutives decided they would not sell in the South. IDIOTS

Nobody should be buying anything from Vanguard owned Greggs, they are the anti-Christ hence war on Easter.

Replace them with Cold Crescent Buns !

I didn't know Greggs were owned by Vanguard but if true, they have a point. Until they get to "the anti-Christ" and "war on Easter". I wonder how they feel about croissants?

Timing seems a bit funny. Have Greggs announced they're not doing them this year or is it just people looking for them too early?

The War On Easter usually starts immediately after the cease-fire that temporarily halts the War On Christmas.  While I haven’t read the entire New Testament I'm pretty sure there's no bunny-wunnies or chocolate eggs mentioned therein and the only baked good that get a name check is bread.

Love Google questions

Who is Greggs owned by?
Who are the major shareholders of Greggs?
Is the owner of Greggs a nonce?

The son of the founder of the Greggs bakers chain has been jailed for 13-and-a-half years after being branded a “sophisticated, predatory paedophile” by a judge. Colin Gregg, 75, was sentenced at Newcastle crown court having been convicted of nine counts of indecent assault on four boys over a period of decades. 30 Mar 2017

Greggs are a Plc. Shareholders include most of the big investment firms including Vanguard.

HXBs make your wee smell of cinnamon anyway.  I haven't tried them after asparagus.

I think we should boycott them (along with Alpkit & Betty's) for not interviewing me for their buying team. How very fecking dare they.

My arse is thanking them for keeping me from their subsidised canteen, mind.

HXB are nothing compared to the mighty Belgian bun. Why offer a pale un-iced imitation?

These days Stuart Lee gets put in prison for even going to Greggs. These days.

Have you ever tried to toast an iced bun?
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

You shouldn't be toasting HXB either, you're thinking of a teacake.

IME the supermarkets start selling HXBs before Christmas Day.

I try to avoid these until a month before Easter, simply cos I don't want to eat too much Naughty Carbohydrate.

I'll avoid the 'novelties' with which Mr Sainsbury tries to tempt me.

I'm surprised Greggs were selling them, they've long ceased to be a bakers in the conventional High St sense, when could you last but a loaf of bread there? Instead they've become a fast food takeaway outlet and whatever your opinion of Hot Cross Buns, they don't seem a natural takeaway item.

In some outbreak of pathological confusion, Waitrose are selling cheese and stout hot cross buns. The manufacture of any kind of alt-flavoured hot cross bun should be punished through the crucifixion of everyone involved #harshbutfair

I'm never really sure of the love for Greggs, they're just fast food, none too healthy, none too cheap. I'm pretty sure that to even burn off a sausage roll you'd have to jog to the moon and back.

Sainsbury's also seem to be purveying multiple 'novelty' varieties of HXB, which I'll give a miss.

HXBs are like sex - best not attempted dry.

I used to carry HXBs with peanut butter and honey for speedy audaxes. It was like rocket fuel, but I can't touch them now.

HXBs and fruit yeast teacakes were one of my favoured quick carb sources.

I ate them 'dry', washed down with low-cal1 fruit squash.

Meanwhile, Mr Sainsbury offers this variety of HXBs
Triple Berry
Apple & Cinnamon
Chocolate & Salted Caramel
Triple Chocolate
Lemon Curd & White Chocolate
Blueberry
Cheese, Tomato & Oregano
Large Chocolate Orange
'Free From' Chocolate & Caramel

I quite fancy the tomato & Cheese - sort of pizza manqué but HXB it is not.

1) Low-cal to prevent stickiness and reduce insect attraction.

This has inspired me to have a go at sourdough HXBs.

I’m not sure sourdough would work for HXB becasue it’d be too course. Imho obv.

I've found a few recipes, one of which is close to how I do bread*, so I'll report back shortly.

*This weekend's loaf was a mishaphen, over.proved mess. I nearly binned it before I baked it. Generally I'm getting repeatable, tasty, nicely shaped loaves.
