Enamelers for bicycle frame
« on: 05 October, 2011, 08:37:05 pm »
Hi

I m thinking about getting a frame enamaled. Not powdercoated or 2 pack paint. I know Argos do it though I think it's about £150 and Argos is excellant ?

Anyone know of somewhere that enamal frames at a cheaper price, preferbly Manchester , North West area ?

Thanks

I'm not sure about this, but I have a vague recollection of a firm called Atlantic Finishers in Liverpool.

C&G Finishes of Smithdown Road, Liverpool did a very nice job on one of my bikes. Tel 0151 734 3088.   I think their prices will be around the same level though.

Atlantic Boulevard. Website is out of date, but there's a guy on BikeRadar who had his Colnago done by them. Anybody who's owned a Colnago would not put up with a 2nd rate job!

Terry Dolan still advertises refinishing, I've seen a couple done top notch.

Argos is excellent, but I suspect it may be a bit dearer than that.  I had a frame re-enamelled there about 10 years ago, single colour, no transfers; I did have the canti bosses moved at the same time but it was about £200 IIRC.

Argos is excellent,
Agreed, and they are not as expensive as suggested here.  The current price list shows £125 for a basic single colour frame and forks respray with no transfers.  http://www.argoscycles.com/www/renovation-pricelist.htm  The price ramps up pretty quickly if you start to add contrasting panels, pearl finishes, box lining etc
I have used them several times over the last 30 years and not been disappointed.  They resprayed one frame twice for me because they were not happy with the result the first time around - this was a flamboyant finish which can be difficult.

I have also used C&G in Liverpool, not directly but as a result of frame builders sending their frames to them.  Their finishes have always been excellent and hard wearing.

Here's my Bob Jackson respray, much better than the original.

I will say though, next time I have a frame resprayed, I'll leave it for a month before I build it up - the paint was easily chipped in the first couple of weeks after I got it back.

I've used Argos a number of times via Phil Corley in Milton Keynes. I did have to pay a shipping charge but don't recall it being as much as YahudaMoon paid for private shipping. Other LBSs may also ship.

I've got another frame that will probably go the same route soon.

I had a frame done by Terry Dolan a few years back and he did an absolutely PERFIK job at a good price!

Doesn't Goff do enamelling?

Steve sends his frames to C & G in Liverpool (IIRC his prices are slightly cheaper than if you went to C & G direct - I suspect that because all his frames go there he gets a better price!).

The finish on my Goff touring bike is amazing (metallic gunmetal grey), I would have no hesitation to recommend Steve or C & G.
