Autosol metal polish will be better, though you'll never get a really high shine with galvanised spokes, and they get duller and rougher as they age.  Never mind.  Maybe you'll have stainless spokes one day.

definitely galvanised and + 1 lovely Welsh Dragon rug too

For cleaning stainless spokes I`ve successfully used:

kitchen cleanwipes things eg detox or cheap look alikes

disc brake cleaner--spray it on a cloth and wipe, very good solvent for grease etc

muc off neat and wipe and then wash off with water

buying new spokes = expensive wheel rebuild  ???

I don't want to get a new set of wheel all together because I like the haro hubs

I've got some of their rim tape on my tourer (20" front wheel).  It looks a bit silly, but it's been working admirably well for the past several years.  Therein lies the total of my experience.

That's a bit major, rebuilding a wheel to get shiny spokes?

If it is a bmx that you want to do anything remotely BMXy with, rebuilding seems very sensible to me. Nice shiny thick stainless spokes.
