Cycle access over Hambledon Wier, nr Henley on Thames
« on: 17 September, 2020, 08:08:24 pm »
Does anyone know how easy it is to push a bike, specifically a tandem, over the wier at Hambledon Lock over the Thames?

And access from south east to north.  Thinking of staying at Hurley Riverside Park for a spot of BCQ ing.

Thanks

It was doable this time last year. I don't think there were any steps. Not that wide so look out for pedestrians.

IIRC, from the south you want the unmarked track immediately left of the Flower Pot pub.

Often pushed a solo over, it's quite narrow but usually not very busy. Some of the corners on it might be a bit tricky with a tandem, but maybe a pair of you could lift it above railing level if necessary.

IIRC I managed to ride my Trice over it.

The footpath over the lock is so narrow that it's better to stay on the bike, to make it easier for pedestrians to pass you.  Wheeling a bike means that you take up almost the whole width.

Most (but not all) pedestrians get that.

It's on google Streetview (dated March 2019) if you want to take a look at it.

Gosh, you can see the photographer's Brompton.  Looks OK, slightly scary maybe!
