Titanic

Three hours to watch a ship sink!

Oh! You've spoilt the ending!

The English Patient. As per the lead characters in the Seinfeld episode of the same name, I hated it. Lead characters totally unsympathetic, predictable plot, and yet it won applause by the bucketload. Why?!!! Made a transatlantic trip considerably duller.

Inception. Huge, steaming piles of dialogue consisting of nothing but plot exposition, for no other reason than the basic premise couldn't be explained properly otherwise. It got switched off.

Yes and yes.

I'll politely differ about Starship Troopers (the original). Not quite as good as Robocop (same writer, same director, same kind of tone). Giant bugs. Lots of guns. Black humour. Annoying characters killed off. Love it.

Aye, nowt wrong with Starship Troopers.

The Thin Red Line. You could almost feel the critics straining to like it, like they were trying to poo a bowling ball. Keep pushing. Dull, self-indulgent twaddle that combined all the worst things about arty movies into a single neat package of wankiness.

I want to hunt down and kill everyone associated with it. Probably with robots.

Jaws sequels. They're always spoiled by the need for me to shout at the screen "move inland!". Really, if you are being pursued by vengeful sharks, this will work.

Oh, I forgot LoTR. Not a fantasy fan at the best of times, but I was persuaded to watch these. First one was dull and spoiled by people saying 'but in the book...', the second sent me to sleep, the third was actually close to reasonable (yes, we know, there will be big battle, please just be getting on with it), until the end. Which kept going. And going. And going. And going. It might still be going now, several years later. Safe to say I'll be skipping the Hobbit.

Three Kings.  We didn't even make it to halfway.

Three Kings is good, in a bad way.  I think this thread is showing a slight difference in people's idea of what is good and bad when it comes to films (apart from SST which seems to be nearly universally derided).

If they'd called it Air Biscuit it would have been a bit better.

I think the point of Three Kings is that it's supposed to be chaotic.

Worst film for me was Heavens Gate, a Western. Rubbish acting, no discernible plot.

The deeply odd Born Of Fire, starring Peter Firth.  When I used to share a flat with a bunch of penniless film student oaves, they raved about it.  I handed them an invoice for 84 minutes of my wasted time.  Its sole redeeming feature was that the production runner bore the name Eroica St. John-Mildmay.

Most of the films listed are films you've hated whilst others have raved about them.
I offer Lost in translation.  I loathed that film on so many levels.

Just had to Gewgall that name.  It seems that it is a real name, and you are very fortunate to have seen Eroica Greer St.John-Mildmay's entire cinematic oeuvre.  He is an aristo, natch, though I can't find a title on a quick squint.  Eroica is a vocal resident of Sheringham, and author, with at least one novel and one webpage to his credit.  ;D

I would rather watch Sack Lunch any day. Or indeed Rochelle, Rochelle - "a young girl's strange erotic journey from Milan to Minsk"

Worst films I've seen lately are The Hangover and Hot Tub Time Machine. I couldn't manage more than about half an hour of either. Bridesmaids lasted hardly any longer.

I'm sure there are worse films but nothing on earth could conduce me to even begin watching, say, Marley & Me or Sex & The City 2.

Lair of the White Worm was not a high point of the cinematographer's art.

Oh, I don't know - it has its moments...

Jaws 3D.  Good grief.

I would rather watch Jaws 3D than Piranha 3DD.

I normally quite like Coen brother films, but I totally did not get No Country for Old Men

Ooh I loved that film (as, unusually, did my wife). Very atmospheric and quite a menacing baddy.

My worst: "Shivers" aka "They Came From Within".

But, but... That's Mr Smith's favourite film where nothing happens.

I suspect you are thinking of Amanda Donohoe.  May I remind you it also has Hugh Grant (before he became a campaigner and investigative journalist ;) )

Mmm. Remember the air hostess wrestling scene with her and Catherine Oxenberg?

How could I forget? ::-)

Also has Peter Capaldi, of course.

Koyaanisqatsi, I watched all 86 minutes of it, you can get a good idea of what it's like after 2.

Ah, Rochelle, Rochelle. I'd also go in a double bill of Prognosis Negative followed by Death Blow.

If you think The Hangover is bad, you'll be displeased to know they made a sequel that's even worse, which is quite a feat. I managed half of it on a plane and even given my severely attenuated good sense and general lack of anything resembling good taste, I gave up and started looking for the Jennifer Aniston rom-coms that are ubiquitous on inflight entertainment systems. Genuinely a movie with no redeeming features, with even the vestigial wit of the first excised, in short an industrial sized bag of steaming cinematic shite.

In recent years, Avatar springs to mind.

I once made the mistake of watching 'Beyond the Clouds' in the cinema. . . soft-porn dressed up as art house. Horrendous.
