The wind was mental, I agree.   Mentally draining too.
Good commute really.  Avoided the moisture both ways.
I've got 2 more dead badgers and the tarmacers have done a great job along what was fast becoming my personal pave route  ;)

Are you making a collection?

Would you be interested in a dead frog and a very squashed small bird, possibly a starling?

Kirst,

That reminds me.  Yesterday I saw my first squashed female Blackbird.  It was a real mess, all feathers and bones sticking out.  The saddest part was I could still see the beak  :-[  A couple more metres along there were two male Blackbirds sort of just in the road.  I had a chuckle to myself that perhaps they witnessed the carnage and were in shock  :P

The second dead badger is in the same location as the first.  That set's resale value will be decreased if the carnage gets out amongst the old Brock community.  Not worth two roots and some berries at all.

Frogs?  No thanks.  Had my fill at Center Parcs last week.  It was obviously suicide frog week.

I must have been channelling Chris Hoy this morning when I overtook a scooter on the Embankment

What, one of these?  :)

Yes, I think the owner was six.  I had to push him off in order to stay ahead.
Preferable to pulling him off, I suppose  ;)

A ride built entirely from meh this morning.

Plus, my 'too-large-bike-aches' are back with vengeance meaning 5minutes in, I am uncomfortable and get progressively more uncomfortable for the duration of the mere 7mile ride.

Quite a quick ride this morning.  I suspect tailwind.

I did see a record four people dealing with p*nct*res at the roadside, though, looking at the types of bikes, they were those sensitive types that can only come outside during BST, so I suspect a winter's mouldering in a shed hasn't done much good.

I think a record was set this morning. Six mobile phone-using drivers in a row along Dacre Road and Silverdale. They were trumped however by the guy who was reading a book. A fairly weighty hardback by the looks of it. Admittedly, he was in traffic, but still rolling forward. And they say drivers can't learn.

Still, the police pull-out from south London now seems complete*, so I guess they have no need to worry.

*To be fair, PCSOs still bumble around, and the occasional squad car sirens through on its way to far more exciting crimes.

Half an hour ago it was dry(ish).
It is now very nearly time for me to go home.
Anyone care to guess what the weather is doing right now?
Go on.
I bet you can't guess.

That was . . .  damp. And chilly.

I have a frostbitten belly. I think my middleage flab is developing chilblains.

First 13 miles was fine.  The wind did not really seem to bother me.
Then once I'd topped Caen Hill - jeez the wind was hard and horrible and it contained wet stuff.
I trudged home in the end.  Thank goodness I had taken a gel before I left.

Moist.  And a bit blowy.

Thought we'd covered that for this end of the year.

First commute of the year without knee warmers or arm warmers!!! I even had a short sleeved jersey on (although I did have a windproof jacket over the top.

28:10, a good time, no numpties (apart from the driver at Dawley r/b who just pulled out without looking, but I have come to expect that and ride accordingly!)

In contrast to yesterday, my commute was a pleasure this morning. Despite the rain and the copious amounts of oil on the road.

For complex reasons, I drove part of the way to work :(

And only got 15mins down Denmark Hill & Walworth Road.  It was fun, but poor surface, and some of the junctions are badly designed.
