I have strong memories of when The The’s Mind Bomb came out in 1989 - my girlfriend of the time and I were both very into it and our favourite track was Kingdom Of Rain, which is a duet with Sinead O’Connor. We played it a lot!

A lesser known one, perhaps, because it’s not one of hers though she totally owns it, like most things she did…

That is the song that came to my mind. Such a beautiful tune.

I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

This has hit hard.  I played with her first husband in a band supporting on her 1990 UK tour, when "Nothing" had just charted.  What struck me at the time was how she was received by the sold-out audiences, made up largely of young girls.  There was adulation, but not the teeny-bopper screaming stereotypical way - something much deeper.  She was expressing stuff they clearly identified with.

Very, very sad.

And, as I suppose is inevitable, Mumsnet has used her death for a swipe at trans people.

Those people are unhinged. There are multiple reports now coming out about her generosity to trans women, in donations of cosmetics and clothes.

On another note, I made the mistake of reading the Graun's obit,
