Why is back pain so wearing. I’ve no idea what I did, but I’ve had lower back discomfort for a week now and mobility is restricted. Being married to a former nurse means that sympathy ran out some time on Wednesday  :(

Pain *anywhere* is wearing, which is why one of my first pieces of Audax advice is ‘Keep comfortable and attend to minor discomforts before they become major pains’.
Pain stimulates secretion of stress hormones and these add to exhaustion.
With back pain, its constancy and exacerbation by those movements you NEED to make all day add to the grind.

I don’t know what’s causing your pain but hope it settles soon!

And the hateful catheter is gone  . Hopefully it won't be back for years  :-) .  Thank you all for the support and advice. You have helped me keep slightly sane  :P

“Sane” & “Cycleman”.  Words rarely used in the same sentence…..
Cycleman was introduced to Sanity and they soon became fast friends – but only on Facebook. They get along very well as long as they don't have to meet in person.

Never used Facebook  O:-).  I am still trying to get the balance right. In the early hours I am feeling constipated and have great difficulty peeing then after a bowel movement all is OK till the early hours again. I need to not have to take movicol so I can improve the balance but I am scared of going back into retention again if I don't..

I think we should put Cycleman in touch with Gillian McKeith.   They'd have so much to talk about......  ;)

Na, ignore them. If posting updates on your movements is helping you, y=the carry on. We all have the rift (and ability) to scroll on by and ignore your output if it’s a bet troubling.

Visited the physio quack yesterday.

Very impressed by my progress. Added one exercise to help regain mobility behind back - that one hurts!

We had a chat about therabands vs weights. It's no contest. Therabands enable movement, against resistance, in any direction. That is what you need to engage the small muscles that create joint stability. If you see videos of elite athletes in the gym, they spend a lot of time doing movements with bands.

Working at a desk is actually an advantage here; I knot therabands around the desk legs, and every time I think about it, do a few movements with them.

Discharged from physio.

Something is clicking in my throat in time with my heartbeat.  It's mildly distracting.

(Problem with therabands is they make your hands smell of balloons...)

OK sorry for over reacting. I am aware that that what I post on this thread is possibly over descriptive I am confident in discussing my medical problems but if anyone feels that I am going to far hope that someone will let me know. By pm if not on the thread  :)

Just had my coronarography. Everything in working order. 'Angina' on hills was something else. Fun thing is that now I could mistake real angina for the something else.

Bloke in next bed unhappy, facing a probable bypass.

ETA: later, 11:30 am 'breakfast' for diabetic coronary patients:

Dubious soup, hard roll, ham, cholesterol-rich butter, cream cheese + soft cheese. Out of pic: pot of apple purée, sticky bun.

Fair enough, actually: if your arteries are still healthy, dig in; if not, sure they're going to fix them anyway, aren't they?
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Leicester University is doing a study into Atrial Fibrillation in endurance athletes.

The Principal Investigator rides with my cycling club and I think we have all heard of the Chief Investigator.

Had a gander at the report of my coronarography. Amongst other notes: "tabagisme sevré", i.e. smoker, stopped. Yeah, >50 years ago but they bear grudges.  >:(

Yes.  I have "ex-smoker".  Nearly 60 years ago for me.  It's like an accusation.  It never appeared until I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation a few years ago.  Apparently, according to an unrelated investigation, I also have COPD (no symptoms).  I wonder if future observers might see the COPD and "ex-smoker", tap their noses and go, "Ah!".  A doctor friend told me that in connection with COPD, "lives in Manchester" would be a far more pertinent remark!
