The Woodman & Daughter 30/04/22
« on: 19 April, 2022, 07:29:32 am »
Still open for entries and will be right up to the day before. 09:00 start with 6 hours for the 50 (and  a road bike friendly off-road optional route) and a very civilised (or ece-able) 10:00 start for the 100km. Food at the start and a cream tea at the finish included in the £10.00 fee.

I'm planning on a Helpers' Ride for the 50km Woodman's Daughter this coming Sunday afternoon 24/04, leaving from my house at 14:00. And a 100km Woodman Helpers' ride is possible any time from now on too, though I may not be able to join in - pick a day that suits you ...

If you've offered help on the day please remind me, as I've misplaced the post-it note with the all-important jottings on it!  ::-)

I can be there from lunch onwards (13:00 ?).   J has an exam at school in the morning so not sure whether I can press gang him into helping or not.

I am down to help out on the day.  I would prefer to help out for the start if possible and set off as tail end Charlie on the 100km.  Assuming that is ok, what time do you want me there? I should also be joining you on Sunday afternoon for the 50km helpers ride as long as I can get the lawn done before lunch.

Thanks folks, I'll formulate a plan for 30th this week. The offer of Helpers' Rides & Route Check still stands.

Change of plan for Sunday, in case anyone is thinking of joining me for a pootle round the 'Daughter' (off-road version): now this Sunday morning leaving about 09:00 - we're having lunch out, so its got to be fitted in then!

I have a 300 tomorrow.   Will be having a long lie in on Sunday.

I am dancing the night away birthday bash on Saturday night (or would be if I didn’t have two left feet and no rhythm) so I am not sure I will be in a fit state to make a 9am start.  Definitely don’t wait for me.

Plenty of room still on both events - though already more than usual on the 50km, but the 100km is a little under subscribed compared to last year. (Though we had just recently come out of lockdown then I think?) Not many ACME takers yet.  :-\

Approaching peak bluebell in the woods by next weekend I should think. Lots out already along the Flitch Way in Takeley. Comedy Off-Road on 28mm tyres was fun today, just a bit loose in places on the Flitch Way. The grassy ride through the Forest was fine, as was the Stort towpath.

I rode the Woodman 100 last year as an ECE 200 and it was fab. Lovely route and comes highly recommended. I would happily ride again but am route checking A&S 400 for Huggy on Sunday.
What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!

The 100 shows as being closed for entries on the AUK website (unless I'm doing something stupid - entirely possible)

There's still a debate in the Jiber household about if Capt Slow can make it round and if I will be back in time for a drinks engagement I have in the afternoon....

Some discussion in the hoot household about whether we are up to an ECE for the 100! Not ridden that far since October.

Checked The Woodman's Daughter on Sunday afternoon - all good. The Flitch Way and the Comedy Off-Road through the Forest was fine on 28mm tyres and the Stort Navigation Towpath, though a bit rough in places is dry and firm.

Rode round four-fifths of The Woodman yesterday afternoon ... then went to the pub! The Bluebells are looking good, especially in Fryerning Wood (just after Blackmore) - there's a haze of blue throughout the depths of the wood. The small area of woodland along the Flitch Way at Takely is thickly carpeted too, for those on the off-road Daughter. In fact if 100km riders aren't 'going for a time' then I highly recommend the 50km off-road route to Sawbridgeworth, for a proper taste of Hatfield Forest in the Springtime.

I was thinking of getting a train to Stansted-Mt-Fitchet from London and then ride back after the doing the 100 but it appears that there are none running on Saturday - all bus replacement.

How's the Chelmsford line from Liverpool Street?

That service look fine but a fair ride from any stations on that line to G Dunmow.

@Tomsk I have just done a LFT in advance of tomorrow and to my surprise have tested positive for Covid so won’t be able to make this.  I suspect it’s an unwanted hangover from the big birthday bash I went to last Saturday.  Sorry to leave you in the lurch.

Ok, hope it doesn't develop into a nasty version of ye plague!

We'll cope - I have a contingency plan ...
