Possibly - I'd like to very much as it's a cracking route - one of my favourites.  I've done it as a perm (October 2010) and the event last January.

Depends on a few things domestically as the other half is away that weekend.

I have a plan to ride the perm version later in spring if I don't make it (and probably if I do!).

Hopefully see you in the car park!

Probably.  Floated idea with Mrs CET so entry will wing its way through the ether at the weekend.

I'm in....!

Travelling down from Norwich but in-laws live at Kidlington, so very handy for the start/finish.

Tried this one a few years ago but lots of ice around then and quit after coming off for the 3rd time before we reached the Cotswolds. Hopefully this one will be a balmy 18C with a tailwind all the way.

I've consulted the official authorities, looked over both shoulders, and decided it's safe to enter.

This was my first ever Audax, back in 2007. Boy have I learned some things since then.

See you all in the car park.

Indeed - or £19 if you don't mind an 8 mile ride from Wheatley. I've decided to drive down at Early O'Clock; the chances of a weather-related DNS are quite high.

I've discovered that Paddington-Oxford is 4squid bought in advance and train times are Poor Student compatible. Not sure if I'm riding this year though, it rather depends on how much riding I get done over Christmas.

I wonder if that gi-normas pothole at the bottom of the descent into Chipping Camden has been repaired yet?

If I ride I'll DIY from home again. Which means joining getting in the way of the peleton somewhere before Shrivenham.

Recent balmy weather has boosted my enthusiam for this ride, but the upcoming freezing temps will probably sort that out.

(Great to see this classic ride being kept alive.)

I'm in. Can't book my bike on the train from Didcot though - anyone know if this is possible, or maybe there are spaces for bikes but already taken? Looks like I get an extra 50 chilly km for free ::-)

Many of the trains from Didcot to Oxford are local trains that you just get on with your bike - shouldn't be any problem at all on a Saturday.

If you head back towards the A40 roundabout by the BP garage and head for Wolvercote you should be able to park at the bottom of the hill just before the traffic lights. It's only a few minutes ride back.

Grabbed the camera and tried to get a few photos of you lot on my way to the parkrun this morning - not enough light so wasn't really going to happen. A blurry lot which probably wouldn't have been any better even if I had put my contact lenses in the correct eyes and actually been able to see you properly.

Anyway best of a bad batch here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/58508694@N02/sets/72157628758006257/)

Thanks to Pat for keeping this excellent ride going. We enjoyed riding it for the first time two years ago (as a perm), and thoroughly enjoyed riding it today. As it was our first 200km since August it was never going to be completed at tandem warp speed, but was just great to be out.
Thanks to all who we rode with/sheltered behind! It was good to catch up with folks.

Thanks to Pat for a fine ride. It was great to finally repeat this ride, which was my first ever Audax experience, back in 2007.

I had a good outing, keeping my pace down for the first leg, and then giving it the beans for the Compton Abdale section. The final section was slightly wind-assisted, and I kept my pace up all the way back, trying to finish in 11 hours. I missed it by 10 minutes, but still probably my best ever time foir a 200.

Greetings to all I rode with - see you next on the Kennet Valley Run.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who gets the L and R confused  ;)

We were just about to indicate right.... honest!

Lovely ride, slightly marred by faerie visitation about 3 miles from the end.

Anyone know if the chap on the trike finished?  He broke his chain just coming in to Malmesbury.  Left him with the few spare links I had, just in case they were of use, but couldn't really afford the time to hang around to assist.

Thanks Iddu for setting things in motion.  I particularly liked your organiser's parting advice to everyone ..."Bug**r Off then".

Apart from the windy bits (which I rode with a nice chap from Guildford) it was a treat.  The lumpy bit around Compton Abdale rewards you with some stunning scenery.  Judith Swallow remarked that this would be a cracking Autumn ride as the leaves turn (makes mental note...).

Fastest winter 200 I've ever done thanks to the final tail wind and my head set not dying as it threatened to!

What a great start to the year, thank-you iddu.  Rode with CET, Mike & Anton to Cirencester before pushing on along the Whiteway, beautiful weather and great bread and butter pudding cake from the cafe opposite the Summer Cafe in Malmesbury.

Lovely ride - thanks iddu!

James (Gem), Anton, Colin (and Alan at some point) were excellent riding mates, if a little faster than what I'm used to on an audax. The Cotswolds were drop dead beautiful - definitely need to do some more audaxes in this area. Colin and I flew through the last 60k with that brilliant tailwind - back to Oxford by 4.30 and home in time to make myself a well-deserved Spaghetti Bolognese

A lovely ride and fantastic weather for the time of year. Thanks Iddu. Many thanks also to ChrisB & Swarmcatcher for their company. The views ascending the hills at Compton Abdale were stunning and almost worth the effort. I still need more practice in the hill climbing department though. Thank goodness for the granny gear! I will make a note for future rides to eat cake as well as beans at Malmesbury.

it's an excellent route and the weather was very nice, however it was a tough ride for me. first i was trying to stick with the fast boys (Mike, James, Anton and Colin) until the first hill, then was caught up by another group and rode together to malmesbury. i left malmesbury garage on my own, but was promptly caught up by a group of riders including Alan (parkysouthlondon) - i rode with him most of the way to oxford. i wasn't eating enough and my legs started giving up on the way to chipping campden, bonk ration helped me somewhat. nice coffee brake with cake at bantham tea room (as per Mike's photos) restored energy levels and the last leg was fairly easy. we reached the peartree services at 17:40 with just enough time for a post ride grub and a pootle back to the station for 19:01 train which didn't arrive as it broke down before oxford. eventually i was back home half nine - i felt rough, man.. this was my first audax after pbp, and first long ride after an accident (http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=26458.msg1072263#msg1072263) ten weeks ago - it was quite a wakeup call yesterday.
thanks iddu for making this ride happen!

A great day a-wheel.  Also, Idu (somehow) managed to organise perfect weather, which is what encouraged me out on a ride I normally pass on in January due to its more than usual inclement weather conditions.

After a hotpink debate on male organisers issuing brevet cards wearing skirts, (see Twitter, judithswallow) with Audax Oz, Idu looses by a bit more than a cat's whisker and a frilly skirt from Nancy Boy.

Also, I would like to add my thanks to Idu for taking on the organisation, with his on unique style of this event.

From Martin:

Martin Badham has left a new comment on your post "The Poor Student 200":

Tricycling Friday here, please tell ppPete that thanks to him I managed to get round. Squeaked into Chipping Campden on the stroke of 17:48 according to the Co-op till; made it to the finish for 21:31. Repair made more interesting by an audience of elderly gentlemen whose cycling experience didn't include super-links and were convinced I was doing it all wrong. I have just registered on the forum and apparently need to wait for approval before I can tell him myself - but thanks! Martin

Cracking ride, route splendid as ever, many thanks to Mr Iddu for taking this one over.

The wind was annoying on the first leg but the scenery great, the weather balmy (or is that barmy, is is after all only January).

Apologies to Fungus for not sticking around but for some reason (probably the loss of 4 stone) I was on a mission. The final leg is most enjoyable in the daylight (never ridden it in the daylight before) but does look completely different. I've never had a navigation problem in the past, but didn't recognise any of it until it got dark.

Rolled into the finish at 17:03, in company for the first time and three hours prior to any previous arrival on this event. My fastest ever calendar 200..........in January.  :smug:

Thanks for organising the ride, most enjoyable. But was a wake up call on a number of counts 1. Ride the bike more after a major repair to let it all bed in and make the necessary adjustments at home and not at the side of the road. 2. 18st me and 2st bike is hard to get up some of those hills even with 34-28 low gear. 3. Spend much less time at the controls. 4. When you change to deeper rim wheels make sure you take longer valved tubes with you. 5. All Audax riders are very helpful and a pleasure to ride with. 6. I need to do a lot more miles and loose a lot more weight if LEL is going to be achievable.

I looked out for you at the start, guess you was up the road before I even started  :) See you next Saturday?

I struggled more on this year's PS200 than any 200 I can recall since about 2003 (when I stupidly tried to ride a hilly 200 a day after giving blood!)

I found the wind on the first section sapping, and then I did not refresh my calories sufficiently so arrived at Chipping Campden feeling like death warmed up.  Almost (but not quite) took the joy out of the scenery around Compton Abdale.  A veritable feast at the Bantam tearooms (and don't they know how to charge!) did the trick, and the last section passed at a more respectable speed.

One mechanical - a puncture shortly before Shrivenham.  A thorn that I suspect was picked up up last time I was out on a bike in early December.

This is a great route, and as others have said I'm grateful to Iddu for picking up the organiser's baton

Great ride - glad I've finally done this and deserves all the plaudits. Thanks Iddu for keeping this alive.

Bit rushed but left only a few minutes after 8. Quickly figured out the shortcut through Oxford which meant I immediately caught up with the front runners. Equally, it meant I suffered the ignomony of everyone passing me over the next 15k... ::-)

Rode solo for the first leg and as reported the wind made it harder work than it ought to have been.  Having said that, it wasn't that bad and I made reasonable progress to Malmesbury. Chatted briefly to Pete Turnbull for the final few k into the control where I partook of Co-Ops finest (no room at the inn cafe). Didn'r really linger for that long and set off towards Chipping Camden in good spirits.

The climb up the WhyteWay was great even if I was passed more times than I passed...  Lovely views and then the final lumpy 25k to Chipping Camden done with company in the form of LycraMan and a couple of chaps I'd met on the SBWW last month. Lovely hour spent grumping up hills and seeing just how good my brakes were on the way down  ;D

At CC, I spent some time in the cafe consuming Beans on Toast and cake, chatting to LycraMan and being introduced to MarMiteGeoff and others. Said a quick hello to Phild also whilst there. Went to set off with LycraMan but some last minute faffage meant he went off first - last I saw of him until the end.

Ended up setting off again with the two fellas mentioned earlier (didn't catch names stupidly, although one was called Justin I think...) and had a nice ride back to the finish.

I was suprised to find out it had taken us 11hrs 20 mins to complete and thought this was rather slow, especially as it seemed quicker. Maybe I upset LycraMan at the end with my 'that's positively glacial!' comment - I didn't mean to. Sorry!  :-[

Anyway, a very nice ride indeed made better by good weather and excellent company. I'd love to do this again as a perm in summer time. Hmmmm....

The Poor Student makes a lovely ride in the summer (I live close to the route so have ridden it a few times as a perm). it is also interesting to ride it in reverse - the descent into Compton Abdabs is rather fun, but then the climb out of Chedworth is probably harder. And, of course, you get to ride down the Whiteway.

All stuff now off to Keef, so you'll get ASAP once returned.

Hello All

Thank you for entering above.

Validated cards have now been returned, and result forwarded specifically by e-mail where requested; those wanting cards back have just had them dropped in the postbox, so you'll get them next week;

92 entries, 14 DNS's, and 3 DNF's, due to no card being returned in time. Everybody seemed to have a enjoyable day.

We'll do all again next year; for various reasons, I have a surfeit of cards, so plenty of room, but if you want to start forming an orderly queue... ;D

See you on the road.

Regards
Pat Hurt
