Still reckon BC is just as hard as the Brimstone.

so the Hellfire would be a good ride for July between the Qualifiers and PBP?

Hellfire's fine in good weather*.  One year I did both Bryan Chapman and Brimstone, and the latter was a couple of hours quicker. But then the Daylight trumped both of them.

*I've also done it in atrocious weather - rain wind, and thigh-deep flooding. That was less fun.

You've ordered that for the end of May haven't you?

Jolly good...

Classic stuff.
Reminds me of the 1991 version starting from Chepstow car park and my 1st 600km. It rained for most of the time on that too. Was this your 1st 600 teethgrinder/Ian H..

1991 was my last Welsh 600, of 4 on the trot.
when you're dead you're done, so let the good times roll

So Sir, I'm not the oldest B*****d on here then... ;D

Don't forget the Knotty 600- that too was hard. Denmead 600 a great, but not in the same league at these other 3. Hellfire without support (never done it). But it's the Brimstone, this is up there, B3174 out of Seaton :o :o
Albion 600 was great too, but not hard. Froze to death on The Cambrain.
Ian your Kernow and Southwest 600 has to be on a par with Brimmy
Mad Jacks JSM/  Hills and Mills to be continued in 2021

Yep - its gone wrong already. Standard shorthand is Bryan Chapman = BCM Brevet Cymru = BC  ;D

I did BCM as my first 600k in 2009. This year will be my 3rd. Its very hard not to keep coming back for more. 2nd time around I was faster enough to ride through Snowdonia in the light. Its well worth going a bit faster for that I can tell you.

Well, I've not yet managed 8 hours break but arriving at the sleep stop at 0130 and leaving at 0730, and still having 5h in hand (against BR time) at the finish says it's not that bad.  But I've never done it in a year with bad weather, and my first attempt (Scenic Route) in '07 was a different story (DNF with stomach issues).  In '07 I controlled at Menai Bridge at 0140; in '08 and '10 I controlled at Dolgellau at 0130.  That's a whole stage further down the road.

Looking forwards to nice weather.  Best get my entry in though, as it is filling up according to Mark.

8 hours kip in a 600 !!
At what point does one ride become two?

Dont think ive ever slept in a chapman .  if i have it would only have been a ten min nap.
much prefer to ride right through, at least that way ,you get to go home a sensible hour on a sunday, to get ready for work on monday.
i know , its very much a case of " its not me gov, its everybody else"

You can still have 8 hours kip and be back at Chepstow for 4pm.  I can do without losing a night's sleep.

10 pm is the cut off for getting back isn't it?

I'm hoping to get a decent enough (5+ hours) kip and be home in time for tea.... and I'll still be taking a duvet day on the monday :D

You're just lazy    ;D

Have you thought about taking the easier route up to Menai, avoiding the Pen-y-pass? It could save you an hour...

Have you thought about taking the easier boring route up to Menai, avoiding the Pen-y-pass best bit of the ride? It could save you an hour...

It saves about 20km doing that, doesn't it; making it as short as 599km.

Nope. Only saves 6.3km. Based on the two different shortest routes (Llanberis and Rhyd Ddu) between just south of Beddgelert and Menai.

Not sure about differences in climbing though...

Is this a personal ad?  And if so, what depraved practice is BC?

The southern part of the return route is shorter than the southern part of the outbound, too.

Though I can still only make it add up to 9.5km difference.

I tried it one year. It really is incredibly boring. It might be shorter but seems far longer, and completely misses the point of being in Snowdonia.

I wonder if this will be the year I see the Menaii bridge in daylight? On Saturday, that is!

! So without the 8 hours kip, you`d be back in Chepstow by 8 am.  which in turn would mean being in Dolgellau on the way back before 9 on saturday evening.
you are quicker than me then , thats for sure.

Nope. Back to Dollgellau at about 11pm, off again at 7am.

All very civilised, but certainly not a feat of athletiscism. If I rode through the night I'd be crawling along.

Or eight hours laying in a bunk tossing 'n' turning.
What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!

God yes, but even so I'd rather do that than be on the road through the night.  Might book a hotel in Dolgellau this year  ;)
