I don't know where you get this naive idea from that C+ is a hallowed harbringer of truth sullied by the dirty hands of commerce, but the Thorn guy took exception to a less-than favourable review recently, and had a letter published expressing this. Pretty fairly handled I thought.

Backside covering because they were rumbled.

Once upon a time before things went all people's front of judea/judean people's front between C+ and it's old forum hardcore a lot of YACF were members.

It's been discussed before elsewhere and they know that we know that they know that we know.

Or something to that effect.

There's nothing wrong with a Taiwanese (not Chinese) made steel frame.

Unless it's sold for custom prices and handles like a supermarket trolley  ;)

I read that review - I think.   Thorn complained about not providing the right bike for testing and having the shortcomings pointed out IIRC    ;D

I personally find the contorted carbon, flappy winged barred, flat saddle things less than pleasant on the eye.   I like a bike to have a rugged look.

So close but so far.

Rourke have a steel fixed in the shop(very similar to mine) and it's metalic Kwak green with old school purple. It works, even though it should not.

Hmmm. Lottsa spacers ain't ideal, but until can buy frames with LONG headtubes c.f. seat and top tubes not much alternative for those who from either preference or physical necessity require an upright riding position. Design has simply not kept pace with the fact that a significant proportion of those who spend big money on bikes are getting older. The assumption is that the older folk want only sit-up-and-beg bikes ("comfort"). It is very difficult to buy a LIGHT decent quality bike that doesn't presume head down and arse up positioning.

And quills are and were design bollox. Aheads one of the greatest yet simple innovations in bike "technology" - which is generally so out-dated as to be laughable - of the last 30 years.

I know that at my age I SHOULD have a rose tinted nostalgic view of the world - but I don't. Hey, I STILL think the Stones and (after the first album) the Beatles were also bollox.

But quills are pretty ! They may not be good engineering but they look lovely (well usually).
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

That's just an unfortunate choice of stem, bars, saddle, chainset, rims and colour.  ;)

Paint it blue, put a level stem and some normal bars on and you have the makings of a rather nice bike.

I think the short pointed-down stem is the worst thing.  It says either "this frame is too big for me" or "I live in West London and am an unreconstructed fakenger".

You've got to hand it to Dennis Bean - however horrid it is, he posts it without comment.

I was largely ignoring this thread especially because of the comments about Thorns and Hetchins, but this bike on eBay has tripped my switch.  Someone's bu**ered up a Moulton AM, stuck in 20" wheels and fitted a rigid fork.  Apart from being sacrilegious, it just looks wrong.

YMMV...

Couple I just found on ebay: Giant Bowery with top tube pad, mtb forks, no brakes, white chain and daft little riser bars. The advert is even more terrible than the bike.

One-One Pompino Non-matching ripped bar tape, flames and stickers frame. Ace.
