I take it Mark "Thumbs" King is in there as a joke?

John Deacon.

I don't do "Best", but would offer Tony Visconti
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Yeah, where's Peter Hook?  The bassist nonpareil when it comes to playing the thing round his ankles.

There's Manny as well.

It's such a dull job, isn't it?  even people who'd stay for a drum solo would probably walk out at the first hint of a bass solo.  The best ones are, like referees, the ones you don't notice.

Phil Lynott surely?

David J http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_J

and maybe even Steven Severin

There's also the one out of the Bangles, but not for musical reasons.

Another choice would be Andy Fraser - love the solo on Mr Big

Jaco Pastorius takes some beating. Oh and Les Claypool of Primus.

My personal favourite though would be Geddy Lee.

Noel Redding?

IMHO he was average at best, he just looked the part and did enough with a fantastic guitarist and drummer. His heart wasn't really in the music either.

I like Tina Weymouth's stripped-down style and Bootsy Collins is awesome. But how come no-one has mentioned Nile Rodgers?
