having a wheel built but a got offered some hubs recently. Phil Wood pair and a Halo rear. I know Phil Wood are good by reputation but maybe overkill for the commute fixed. Anybody tried Halo ones?

Generic but with replaceable sealed bearings. Apart from bling or weight, no reason to spend more.

Probably the same as Formula/Miche*/System EX.  They're fine and hold up well for commuting.  Bearings are cheap to swap out.

*Only Miche seem to have the brittle locknut problem.  If you buy Miche track hubs, change the locknuts for some other metric locknuts, or you could be in for a world of pain when fixing a puncture.  The locknuts literally snap in half, making the wheel impossible to refit.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.
