Traditional tā moko is much finer.

I saw a guy sitting outside a local tattoo parlour the other day, presumably the owner of the business and resident tattooist. His bald head and face were liberally tattooed. I couldn't help but think that if anything would put me off having a tattoo, he would.

...2005!  And he seems to have caught the brunt of grumpy maori types who aren't shy in reminding him that it's not all fluffy-light spiritual warrior bollocks, but also hardcore nationalist conservatism and fightin' pride to which he is, apparently, not ken.

Well, he isn't a Maori (or even a pakeha) for a start...

...so I can understand why they might be a little miffed.

I know a number of white Kiwis with tā moko - but they tend to be people who have been adopted by various Maori families and tribes.
