Witham 100/150/200 - Sunday 17/4/11
« on: 28 March, 2011, 04:42:35 pm »
I've got the entry for the Witham Westerley 200 on my desk and this'll be my first proper Essex audax (the only other thing I've done this way was the yacf DIY600 last year).  I've been told it'll be a quick ride :D. Anyone got a GPS for the route so I've got a rough idea where I'll be going?

Last year's thread is here.
What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!

Route is exactly the same as last year, so if someone's got a record of their ride, it'll do.

Mrs. PP and I will be in the village hall doling out the grub again, so say hello as you pass by.

Here's the bikely route I did for the 2010 ride.  you can download .gpx from there.  I think a couple of folks used it on their GPS units last year (I don't have one myself).  (It is buried in last year's thread somewhere).

Unfortunately I won't be doing it this year - I'll be up north hopefully riding up a few hills.
You are in a maze of twisty flat droves, all alike.

a great ride; a few punchy hills but lots of lovely bits; did it last year. Interesting finish  ;)

I'll be zonked after a 300 the day before and as my name's not **** I'll give it a miss

I have a gdb if anyone wants it; PM for a copy

It's a very pleasant ride, apart from the final run back into Witham which I seem to recall as a bit dull  ;).  Sadly, like Martin, I have a 300 the day before and my parents passing through the Uk on the same weekend so I think the part of me that is still awake on the Sunday will be doing whatever is necessary to secure my share of the debts inheritance.
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

I'm doing the 100 if I can swap my ride-leader duties here.

It is indeed usually a pretty quick ride yes. The lead pack are usually around in under 8 hours.

Are you riding fixed? I may join you. I've done most of the route checking for all three routes (got 60+ miles of 200k to check tomorrow) so might not feel like the 200k on the day!

On behalf OF ED organiser:

ENTRIES are NOT closed despite what it says on Audax site

There are still places but please get entries in quick or let him know you'll be entering on the line so that we can cater.

Please pass on to anyone who may be wanting to ride but thinks entries are closed.

Thanks

Jane

What type of GPS are you using? I have three Garmin .gdb files containing Routes for each distance, prepared for last year's rides. The routes haven't changed for 2011, so they should be good for this month's version.

I don't yet have Track versions but if I get time soon I shall transcribe them into Track .gpx format, for those who prefer Tracks to Routes and/or don't use a Garmin.

The 100km GDB version will be fine, should just go straight onto the Garmin.
Thanks  8)

Well, despite testing the patience of the Organiser with my numerous admin cock-ups, looks like I'm riding the 200

My penance for said buffoonery is to gear up to 83" so you can all point and laugh at me trying to wind it up North Hill .

Anyone else on the 150?  We're planning to tandem this (and hopefully I won't be repeating the massive navigational cock-up from the Up the 'Uts 150  :-[).

I am gpx-ed up. I have plans for Saturday night *hic*. I have a bike that's making occasional horrible noises. What could go wrong?

It's just off south side of A414 in Woodham Mortimer itself. Look for cycle event signs, parking on playing field nearby apparently.

Yes, I'm in the 150.
Just look for an old bloke in an Amersham RCC jersey, with two much younger blondes and I'll be the old bloke!

That's right - you're looking for Post Office Road. The hall is on your right, not far down. Entrance to the parking is immediately before you get to the building.

Great ride, lovely weather and a great route with very little traffic.
Many thanks to the two guys from East Anglia CC who caught me up to let me know I was dropping 2_Flat_Erics. When I looked behind I had three people behind me, next thing no-one. I blame that energy gel/caffeine thing I quaffed down me. I slowed up we regrouped then the two EACC riders paced us up to North Hill.
Excellent ride, loved it, many thanks.
