Tiling window managers

Of no use to bling desktop users who like their desktop cluttered with files/folders but for anyone who wants a minimal very functional desktop, these are well worth a look. I am was a big KDE user (15 years )  but had a look at Crunchbang a while back which uses Openbox as  it's window manager, after a few weeks playing with it's config got a very nice desktop, none of that cluttering geeky conkey setup but after trying a few panels ended up with fbpanel. A simple but very functional desktop for any computer. I then started looking at tiling window managers  but they are a bit geeky and have their fanboys however I really liked i3  http://i3wm.org/   and posted a couple of times on their mailing lists and got replies within minutes.i3 allows all the options, stacked, tiling , tabbed and  floating all with a couple of keys, after years of using computers it is like a breath of fresh air, great with either twin screen or tiny screen. well worth looking at.

I spent a couple of weeks using ratpoison as my WM a long time back.

I *think* (long time ago so I'm not entirely sure) I ended up having to give it up because of issues with some programs that had transient windows that didn't play nicely.
You are in a maze of twisty flat droves, all alike.
