Dear Present-Givers,

You may be fed up with giving me book tokens, but they give me a huge amount of enjoyment. It's not just the books, it's the bookshop browsing, and it goes on for some time. It's a trip out (or several) to our own wonderful independent LBS (local book shop).

What is wrong with delighting someone with a book token?  ???

I have the same grumble about socks. I like getting good quality socks (of the expensive outdoor shop style like Bridgedales). They are easy, practical and cosy, and I can think of you every time I wear them.
Note the 'good quality socks'. A pile of festering sock shaped objects that are no more than a knitted tube with the end badly stitched shut are not fit for anything other than donating to the primary school for conversion to hand puppets.
Fortunately the message seems to be getting across. And boot socks are not the same as good quality walking socks.

Aye, a very good port as it happens.

My body clock's still not reset.  I'm wide awake and due to meet Daisyhill for a ride in exactly 8.5 hours  :-\

I am a stupid twunt. I took the worn chainrings off Mrs B's road bike & ordered some new ones from Spa Cyles. They arrived today. I have just put the outer & middle rings on - but I've lost one of the spacers for the inner ring. Someone tell me what a careless idiot I am. Of course, I have no spares. I've looked through my collection of spacers & fasteners, & there's nothing the right size.

Excuse me while I slap myself round the head a few times.

I so did not need whatever flavour of evangelical Christians knocking on my front door at brunch o'clock today. Spreading the word when everybody is still hungover or feeling semi-detached is being plain sneaky in my book...

Time to carve a few occult signs into the front door, methinks.  :demon:

Apparently not.  Been awake for over two hours now, after falling asleep on the sofa as soon as I got home at 9pm last night, and spending another day at work like a zombie.

This is suboptimal.

I'm really bored with coughing!

Really, REALLY bored with coughing!

At the moment, it appears that my biggest trigger for coughing is in fact laughing.  I laugh a lot

If I go to the Body Shop tomorrow, do you think they'll sell me a new pair of lungs?   ::-)

I've been trying to cancel an early morning appointment with my doctor using the EMIS access where you can make/cancel appointments, request repeat prescriptions etc online. I've been trying to log on to the system since Saturday afternoon and it's only now, 2-45am and less than 6 hours before the appointment time, that I have managed to get through and deal with it.
You touch my Coffee and I'll slap you so hard, even Google won't be able to find you!

I spent 4 hours last night nagging my children and myself to empty the kitchen and the bathroom for the builders coming today to take down then replace the stud wall that has so much damp the fungi are fruiting and the radiator is falling off the wall. They'll also be re-plumbing the bathroom, draining the heating system and taking out the dead Rayburn that sucks woodsmoke into the kitchen from the living room fire. It's needed doing for about a year.

We moved everything, and it's stacked under sheets in the living room, making the house, pretty much, unusable. I've arranged for the childers to stay at their Dad's, I'm staying elsewhere, the water will be off, there'll be dust everywhere, it's all very disruptive. (Every cloud has a silver lining- we defrosted the fridgefreezer to move it).

They haven't turned up. No one has phoned to tell me of any delay.

I may have mentioned this before, but

Why aren't bike shops like doctors??? My LBS phoned me at home today to say that my new bike was now in store... I was not in so my much better half took the call.... "What bike is this" she asked.... "the one he ordered in October." they replied..... "oh the one he forgot to tell me about" Came her reply.

Hope the dog house is warm tonight..... Why did the LBS tell her????!!!! Sigh

(And yes, I did tell her I was getting a new bike, but she forgot....or more likely I did not stress the point.)

Bloody NHS computer system! Trying to refer me for a chest x-ray (emphysema or worse....) this a.m., my GP (who is only permitted so to do "electronically") could not, his access being continually blocked by the usual "Congratulations! You are the xth visitor today and have won an i-pod" pop-ups.

Now I have to await a letter which will give me a 'phone number to call to arrange a time.

The delay is neither here nor there in my case, but it might be for some. And it hardly gives me a warm feeling about the oft-touted all singing, all dancing, NHS IT panacea!
