Only one today, but it's really fuckin' groovy1

Part of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.  Four bridges and two tunnels connect the southern tip of the Delmarva peninsula with Norfolk, Virginia.  The whole thing is 23 miles long :o

Ho yuss.

Mind, Kim is querying whether one can ride a bike across it?  Cos she reckons that if not it can only get half points at best.

No bikes, alas, and not just because the tunnels are only one lane in each direction.

Its called "Shaky Bridge", and its near Alexandra in NZ, and yes it does live up to its name.  Mrs W got a brave person award for getting across it, as she hates wobbly bridges.  in contrast, being a git, I love wobbly or jiggly bridges.  Once made a total arse of myself on Coneel Ferry bridge 'cos a mate insisted a person could get it to jiggle up and down.  It was being staffed by police at the time, as the traffic lights had busted.  They were very indulgent, and I went away unjiggled, cursing my mate...

Today I was introduced to the Edstone Aqueduct:

As far as I tell, whilst being pretty cool in a Richard Wilson 20:50 kinda way, the towpath-at-the-level-of-the-base-of-the-canal thing is mostly designed to optimally put the sausage rolls and sarnies of the passing day-trippers at eye-level of hungry cyclists :-/

Think you might have enjoyed today's NASS, Kim:
It contained traces of The Good Bit, and only 2 horses. :)

I couldn't be arsed with all that early morning getting-to-Solihull business[1] and stayed in bed with a book, going out to see the horses (about 7 in total, plus a tractor that tried to muck-spreader me and therefore counts as an honorary horse) in the afternoon.  Typically, a horse at the bottom of one of the roller-coaster-able hills was extremely twitchy, and necessitated stop and look like a human tactics.  As they passed, the rider explained that she'd been scared by the cows in the previous field.  Ludicrous animals.

[1] Great way to be knackered before the ride's started, plus I'll be doing the more civilised late morning getting to Northfield business tomorrow, for a seekrit cyclebirmingham FriendFace ride.

That's an excellent bridge, nikki.

Here's one for everyone else, rather than for CL, who has probably seen it:

And some Tyne bridges from this morning.

Stephenson's High Level Bridge (Iron Bridge to the locals):

The lesser-photographed Metro Bridge (the East Coast main line cross the George VI Bridge, behind it):

And the Swing Bridge, Tyne Bridge behind that, Millenium Bridge in the distance:

A couple from a walk in the Lakes, up the Newlands valley, this weekend:

Narrowest road bridge ever.  I can confirm that it is, in fact, a VW Polo wide plus two very tiny bits.

Narrow bridge's shy and retiring sibling, 100 yards downstream.

Click either of the pics for t'other non-bridgey ones.

Computer says no - the "True Lies" one is said to be a model of the Seven Mile Bridge in Marathon, FL.
