Squeezing? ??? No one mentioned squeezing! :o As the smallest* of the Krew!, read not too lanky, I shall be luxuriating myself into your car while being chauffeured to and from the Alps. I hope you've got a peaked cap to wear. 8)

ETA: just got a text from EE, nee T-Mobile, that forrin calls and texts will be cheaper from June 23! We'll be back in Blighty then!
Have a lovely trip chaps, don't forget to refuel with some cake.
Del, don't get lost too!
Enjoy the trip, although I hope the others know what they've let themselves in for. Will you be wearing that dead reindeer for the alpine ascents? - You will need something to keep you warm on the downhill bits.
D-T-B: Has it occurred to you that he will insist on stopping at a French hypermarket on the way back, so you will be expected to spend the last leg of the journey with two crates of cheap french lager and a case of wine on your lap?

The wine will numb the pain of cycling from Dover to home. ;)
Have you had your spray tans done yet?
Is anybody packing pickled eggs?
To answer your question from the previous thread: yes, the road to Lac Besson is doable on a road bike.

my navigational skills are peerless when compared with those of another member of our party!Point of order, my navigational skills are 1337! I picked the wrong pub to attend and I got there without difficulty. ::-)
You lucky barstewards! Have a great time. Picture of all forrin pickled egg substitutes plz. Plus full details of any drunken adventures.
Thanks Pingu, really useful stuff. What was riding along the D1091 to La Grave like? I've heard it can be quite busy. Galiber and Telegraphe are on our list but I was wondering about driving the bikes to La Grave and riding from there.
I'm sorry to disappoint but I'm not sure there will be many drunken adventures
Their weather is forecast to be a bit pants this week so let's get the rubbish stuff out of the way now!Looking to be a bit 'ot though! :demon:
Hot is good! Anyhow when we get up high it won't be so hot. I bet we see some snow.Currently 18C on Alp D'Huez. We'll see snow, it'll be pouring down the mountain! ;D

You don't need to bet, it's a certainty. Last July we encountered 3m of snow at side of road on the Iseran Pass. Admittedly it's one of the higher ones a 2770m.
Just caught up with this thread. Have a great trip and enjoy yourselves.
Cheers
Chris
You are all buggering off in the next two days, are you not?
Have a wonderful time, and don't let OD get himself arrested by some gendarme who doesn't understand what passes for a sense of humour in Witham. :P
Hope you've got air con with that many in the car, going to be stuffy otherwise. Have a great trip.Good Point! I don't have a fan but my Tilley will substitute.
Safe Travels guys, enjoy. I look forward to reading and hearing the legends that will no doubt come of this trip!
Oops - cross post!It was such exciting news that it was worth posting twice!
Lots of wobbly, slow moving, grimping sweaty faces and hairy legs to look forward too then and in HD! 8)Oops - cross post!It was such exciting news that it was worth posting twice!
Have a good 'un, guys
Seems like ages before Mrs P and head for the Alps in August.
Good luck with the Go Pro! I hope you have a couple of dozen spare batteries already charged.
I have made the Technical Executive Director decision that ~2 hours of video per day if intelligently selected in the field should be enough, however when reviewing GoPro's spec it appears that an external power source, i.e. my battery power pack, can be used whilst using the camera (or at least when not recording to top up the battery if 'in use' excludes record mode).Good luck with the Go Pro! I hope you have a couple of dozen spare batteries already charged.
Battery limitations have been discussed, the matter is in hand. Our Head of Technical Services (Photographic & Cinematic) (aka The Current Mrs Huggy) is on the case.
I have often noticed that film production companies have natty names. We need such a natty name.MEBaB Productions?

I've been putting these videos and my own Second Unit video into a YouTube playlist (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLp9N5KNZ2g7Bexp84usbPQqBMI9RPi3ZH). Any objections if I share it with Forty Plus CC?No objection from me, it's all in the public domain without viewing restrictions :)

Which month of 2023 are you thinking? And for how long?
I'm planning a Scottish tour at the moment, but of course, there's no reason I can't have more than one summer tour :)
Depending on timings, I'd be up for a trip to the Alps.

Me, I'm committed
Probably need to not take too much time deciding to book
Hello Alps People,
I had an email from THESE FOLKS (https://morethan21bends.com/self-catered-accommodation-in-bourg-doisans), you'll see they have two apartments in Bourg d’Oisans. I have been in touch and four bed apartment is is 900Euros and the two bedder is 500Euros. There's an optional cleaning fee of 60Euros for big apartment and 30Euros for small one. Towel rental is 7Euros per person, bedding is included in price. There's also a refundable security deposit to cover any damage.
I have no idea whether this is cheap or expensive but it looks nice.
The dates I have given is Saturday 10th to Saturday 17th, we'd set off on the evening of Friday 9th and drive down overnight as we've done before.
What do people think? Is anyone willing to make a commitment now which would enable us to book one of both apartments?
I've booked the week off at work...
Think I'd prefer a room to myself but lets see how it pans out. Remember - no fish, mushrooms or cucumber please
In fact, come to think of it, I like the idea of the campsite. Its close to the centre of town and opposite a Casino supermarket if I recall.
There are a number of accommodation options which folks can book themselves, you could have accommodation all to yourself or share with someone else. Could also be easy for people joining the trip later, even last minute.
Make sure you ride the Col du Solude up through Villard-Notre-Dame. There is a little bit of gravel at the top, but nothing to travel a road bike, and you descend to the Col d'Ornon road. Most spectacular piece of road I've ridden on. You will need a little front light for one of the tunnels as they are unlit (but not long).
