Regulator

  • That's Councillor Regulator to you...
It was 1C this morning at 6.15am when I went to the gym.  That's about 13 degrees C lower than it was just a week ago at the same time.

I think today’s imminent trip to Mr Sainsbury’s House of Toothy Comestibles will require:
  • Socks, and
  • A jumper, and
  • Long trousis

Woke up overnight on the ferry from Hoek van Holland to Harwich - a surprising amount of movement for such a big ship. Then I remembered, it’s been windy in the UK.

Once had a mega-rough crossing from Zeebrugge on one of the Townsend Thoresen sinky ferries.  Took a lot longer than normal and there were seasick people lying in the corridors.

Supposedly the IoM ferry from Heysham is worse; the Irish Sea can really whip up and the ferry can take hours longer in bad weather.  Presumably they need to avoid taking big waves on the beam, so they have to heave to in a squall.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

Memories of overnight Liverpool-Belfast crossing drinking Guinness in bar with cronies, getting seasick halfway and staggering up on deck to puke over the side into the wind.  Once dry it brushed off.  Wasn't alone, it might even have been my puke.

Our geog master once drew a map of the different Ireland-Britain ferry routes and labelled them.  His 5 was so sloppy that the Belfast-Liverpool route read 14 Smiles.  Zero that trip.

I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

I recorded 16.6mm for yesterday - the rain stopped just before midnight it seems. The 30 minutes between 5.30 and 6pm yesterday yielded 5.8mm.

Lots of reports of fallen trees and power cuts.

Warnings of evacuations in Brechin. I think that's humanitarian rather than flooding.

Blowing a bit and making a feeble attempt at drizzle when I nipped out to the post box just now.  Warm too.

I'm supposed to be cycle touring in the Hebrides.

Cut that short on Tuesday evening when I realised that the ferries weren't going to be running for much longer (they weren't).

Rode across Skye to Mallaig yesterday. The Skye ferry isn't running today.

Today rode as far as Lochailort, where I decided it was getting too dangerous and caught the train. There won't be any of those after today.

Currently sitting on said train waiting for them to clear a fallen tree.

Another blimey, have you seen the seriously heavy rain developing over the sea to the NW of Ireland?   :o

They're being evacuated to other parts of Angus, the council clearly don't know about the Angus town rivalries, this is like declaring war
