Spotted several YACFers today, simonp, Jo, Lotum, Redlight, and AndyC in the hotel, and IanH riding around St Quintin while we were doing a rece ride of the PBP start this afternoon.

That's cheating - you knew we were here anyway :-)
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

someone in an orange YACF jersey riding through St Quinten this afternoon.  Many others too numerous to mention but identified.  It's like a forum holiday over here :-)

Heh. I didn't really notice anyone drafting. Too busy trying to work out which gear I'm comfortable in - I went all Campag on my new Condor Bivio-X (2010 frame which is nicer than the current crop and at a discount, too) and I'm not sure the compact double has got gears in the right place for my comfort zone. My legs are feeling the workout...

(For those that gave me good advice on bike choice, I looked into the Alfine 11 option for the Condor frame but it was going to work out too pricey with the Versa shifters I'd need in order to avoid bar end shifters.  And I wanted the Condor frame because it has carbon forks and seat stays, where the Genesis doesn't. So I thought I'd live a little and try Campag instead of the Shimano I've got on my other bike. The jury's out, other than for looks, which it beats Shimano hands down on. Pics to follow when I finally replace the camera that was nicked at the same time as my Tempo.)

Didn't spot the bike at all I'm afraid. I shied away from compact doubles when I did the maths on the gear ratios (it helps that I raced double transmissions on mountain bikes several decades ago (yikes!) before they were fashionable) I figured I'd struggle to find a comfortable gear ratio on the flat. I still think my triple is under geared in the middle ring, but that's another story.
As for Alfines - I love my 8 speed for commuting. It's just so spot on. You actually need relatively few gears for commuting in London. One for moving off from the lights, two more to get up to speed and a top gear for when the wind is behind you. You don't really need them too closely spaced either, so the 8 speed works really well.

If I see you again I promise to pay more attention to the bike!!!

billplumtree, out in Ulverston, being sociable ;) There was beer and chips and a wander (sadly no bike, since Valencia hasn't come away with me) up a hill with a rather fine view. And quite a lot of rain, but rain's ok :)

Hmm... <Goes away to check saved GPS track.>
Guilty as charged.  I even had Lee's YACF LEJoG baton stashed in the pannier.

Chris S and I were spotted on the ferry by a yacf-er who hadn't been to Paris.

I was the only one doing a funny walk.

Jasmine, riding on her own through Trefor - I was going the opposite way, tagged along with the Energy Cycles/Clwb Rasio Mona ride, as I'm up here for the weekend.

I met Toestrap at Mildenhall. I'd been chatting with Rich Forrest and noticed a chap in YACF top standing alone so engaged him in conversation. Very pleasant!

Pulled off the double today, unusually for me.

First tiermat (and clan, although clan stayed in the car) dropping off the coffee machine which I bought off him *mumble* months ago and, as a result of various comings and goings, only ended up in my possession today. 20 minutes later, MSeries turned up to swap some pictures of the Queen for a pair of home-plug network adapters.

Nice to see you both.

Me, on University Challenge, on September 5th.
They didn't ask any cycling questions so those of you who don't know me will have to snoop and/or guess.

are you the one with the hair? ;D

No spotting, but speaking to that nice Paul Smith at Corridori Sport on the phone, having been handed over to him by Mice, who was standing in the shop trying to explain what I thought was wrong with her back wheel.

Basil - on bike in Birmingham this afternoon. I was in civvies, having been doing some work type stuff, but noticed a familiar (from photos on here) figure.

Handshakes briefly followed.

Good to meet you; sorry it was brief but London Midland waits for no man.

Giropaul.
So I'm one minute from work on my way home when I clock this bloke staring at me intently as he crosses a ped xing near the Mail Box.  He crosses and I'm about to press on home when I hear "Basil!"
Sorry I had to ask who you were, Paul.  I'm crap at faces.
Do you often visit Mordor?  Give a shout next time and we'll coffee or beer or something.

I have to admit that I've always pronounced your forum name incorrectly in my mind.  Sorry about that.  When you introduced yourself I realised it was an association with an Italian road race, not a recipient of state benefit.   ;D

Nice to meet you matey.

I was on the other team, the one who looked like a cyclist.  I haven't checked but you may even be able to spot the tanlines  ;)
