It'll be all over in 18 minutes!

Dr Hutch rode on the Glynneath "ski slope" a couple of weeks ago, 25 miles in 47:00. Apparently he was disappointed!

Apparently he was disappointed!

Here's probably why.  From 9/4/2011:-

1st 120 Alex Dowsett S Sky Pro Cycling * 00:46:35
2nd 42 Gavin Atkins S Hemel Hempstead CC 00:50:47
3rd 110 Ian Cammish V Planet X CT * 00:51:47

On a windy day on a not-too-fast course:-

Dowsett 18.36
Hutch 19.03

Dowsett looked fabulous and Hutch looked a bit un-focused, TBH.  Worth the 6-hour round trip to see two 5-second glimpses of both these stars.

18 minutes - that's ridiculous! I've never got under 25 on my club course, a long 23 is exceptional and most people do 27s or 28s. These guys are something else.

Just to put it into perspective, the course was the H10/8, up and down the A31 between Farnham and Alton.  My best-ever on there is 21.56, done on a day circa 1992 when a young Rob Hayles, Commonwealth and World Champion on the mid-2000s did about 20.25 to win the event by over a minute.  That was a good fast day.

However, yesterday was by no means fast.  Dowsett's ride was fantastic.  Hutch is current 10,25,50 and 100 Champion, current 10 record holder with 17.54 (iirc) and has been 10-mile champion for the last 6 years!  Beaten by nearly 3 seconds per mile is staggering.

Watch out Spartacus .... 2012 may not be how you expect it!

Those top riders are something else and in Britain we have some of the worlds' fastest.
I remember the BC National TT champs in 2009 when Bradley Wiggins was riding and so was Hutchinson. It was a 30 mile course and Wiggins took about 2 minutes out of Hutchinson. I think that Hutchinson has his off days. He's still very fast on an off day though.
Wiggins was averaging the same kind of speed for the 30 miles as I might be abe to get up to and hold for a mile if I'm lucky, probably more like half a mile.

Well, the National '10' on Saturday 21/5/11 has Wiggo and Hutch two minutes apart.  I'd love to see this, but Hartlepool is a tad too far to ride! ;D

It's hard to get excited about a TT - even this one. hutch seems to sum it up quite well:

I imagine that getting beaten by another Sky professional in the same month would take a lot of the excitement away ...... still, he looks like a cert for the '25' on Sunday week .....  :P

But given Brad’s power output for the ride, I should probably be grateful it wasn’t worse. He brought the computer off his bike to the prize-giving for a bit of show-and-tell. I’d never seen a number that big on the ‘average’ display. I was hoping it was a sticker on the screen that would peel off. It wasn’t. It said 476w. Or maybe 478w.

 :o :o :o

That's some power output!

The head to head that I'd like to see is between Wiggins and Millar.
Aero but not dynamic

Well, Wiggins has just beaten Cancellara, so he must be pinging at the moment.

Is it too early though?

Good stuff for Sky, but I wonder if Spartacus isn't transitioning from spring classics to tour riding?

Quite a good blog from The Hutch about the Nat 25 Champs last week:

National 25-mile Champs - Holsworthy, Devon. «  Michael Hutchinson

Timing the National 25-mile Championship it so it clashed with the Criterium du Dauphine meant that in, comparison with the National 10, the number of people on the start-sheet called Bradley Wiggins was dramatically reduced. This, in theory at least, improved my odds of getting the win.
