PC won't recognise device

I haven't had any trouble up to now but my PC is now 'switching on' the Garmin Dakota 20 instead of letting me read the SD card or connect to Basecamp. I've tried both devices (I have two) and they both just turn on as if running from a mains lead when the USB is connected (which I didn't know they could do but that's another story). Have tried several USB leads.

Running Windows 8.1.

Maybe there's a setting I've misses somewhere?

Wrong cable? You are using a power lead not a data lead?

Fixed it. The USB driver was out of date. A newer driver was added on Monday which explains why it suddenly stopped working.
