Even in my 50s/60s/70s Didcot living days, I never saw anyone on the mainline down platform. Who would want to got Swindon? Different county altogether

We heard two mentions of Carshalton in consecutive programmes on R4Extra.

It's bright! It's happening! It's here!!

Luckily the train is just pulling out.

According to Wikipedia, one of the contestants in The Great British Bake-Off comes from Didcot.

Went through Didcot twice yesterday.

Didn't stop either time. Rare result.

The Empress Palpatine?  She's way too posh for Didcot - she probably lives in Sutton Courtenay.

I know not the Empress Palpatine of whom you speak. Wikipedia names the Didcotteuse as Christine Wallace.

Put her in a black cloak and she'd be Darth Frangipane.  She kept shooting evil looks at the delectable Ruby.

I expect so - that's where the power station is.

I've now watched a bit of TGBBO - Ruby smashed a mixing bowl. Didn't see The Empress - someone said she's been knocked out?

How sad.  :'( Togg Hill, where it's spending the night, is a bit of a local dogging area I think. Perhaps Rogerzilla will lead a night ride to get photos of the big machines?  :D The photo accompanying the article surely qualifies it for Little Eye on the Provinces!

Oh yes, good spot. It's such a non-picture that I didn't even notice it the first time.

There's no "apparently" about it - I wuz there!!!

Definitely Quite Interesting. Took them about 30 mins to get off the railway bridge and round the 2nd roundabout here. If it had been quicker (and warmer), I'd upgrade it to an enjoyable outing!

A decent crowd gathered - I think most people were hoping they'd hit something with the thing (I suspect they did - there were awful noises at one stage, but we couldn't see well enough to be sure ...) . With the road closures, an awful lot of people turned up by bike, which was nice.

It has also been advertised that this was going to happen on the route for weeks and weeks.  Still, it's not their fault they didn't plan their journey properly, it's Tom Toms.

Signage was rather random, it seems. I rode thru the power station roundabout every day last week (and 3 hours before the show); not a single warning sign!

It's probably full of PCBs, and I expect there are some clever Germans who are equipped to dispose of it safely.

It's for those sorts of reasons I'd assumed it was headed for somewhere like China or possibly a municipal waste dump in West Africa.
