When I was waiting on the platform a couple of weeks ago, two people were discussing the bad design of that multi-tiered rack as they parked their bikes. Their complaint was that while putting their bikes in the lower tier, it was hard to avoid hitting your head on the top racks.

It was raining heavily at Didcot this morning when my wife's train was delayed there. Normal, really.

Ive been to Didcot now. Onna train from Paddington to Cardiff. I think we passed through at about 125mph, but I spotted the now disused cooling towers.

I think only half the ones you saw are disused.

My slightly kinky friend from Harwell thinks they should turn the disused towers into an adult play centre.  However, when pressed she did clarify that this was just going to be slides, ball pools and the like, not manacles and slings.

Didcot A demolition live stream

The contractors are going to live stream the demolition of the towers, in a futile bid to keep the hordes from descending on Didcot.  You can share the fun at: http://www.coleman-co.com/news/details.aspx?positionId=485

Ball pools? To keep them moist?  ???

Didcot on Thought For Today at this instant. You can probably get it on iPlayer, but it's Thought For The Day, so why would you bother?

"I was out with my six-year old son this weekend watching the demolition of the Didcot power station, and he asked me, "Dad, did Jesus blow up cooling towers?". I thought about this for a moment and said "Well, yes son, in a way he did..."

My vicar friend does an excellent parody of this standard Thought For The Day template which he can fit to any occasion. He was actually taught how to do this at Vicar School.

Snort!

I'm actually a big (atheist ) fan of TFTD, but that clunky template does annoy me.  It also features in 90% of church sermons I've consumed. They must think very little of the average Today Programme listener.

And there goes all the planning for the power balance this winter. We had better hope for a mild one, with a substantial number of nuclear reactors off line for safety inspections / remedial work they have been saying for a while the power balance could be tight.

Are they doing fireworks as well?
A few days early but with such a good fire,it would be a pity to waste it.

They got the date wrong, should have arranged it to illuminate the Upper Thames 200!
