looks like he's 39 seconds off the lead in the GC -  I'd call that a pretty good work-out to start the year with...

He's a master of timing his training/preparation to perfection.

If he finishes 39 seconds behind the winner then I suspect he has a performance plan somewhere that says "Try to finish 39 seconds behind the leader".

OK, 39s isn't too shabby.  I just couldn't find a mention of him in the CW reports.

This is his first road race since 2006, I think.  Of course he won't do much, he's just using it to get race fit.
