The Brown Chain thread

I'll start. All on the same set of Sheffield stands in the middle of Reading, yesterday. Phone pictures, so maybe not of the usual standard.

Ooh - some nice examples there.

Bonus points should be awarded for photos of brown chains in action (with associated audio recording for even more points).

I am amazed when I see (and hear) some of the chains out there that they actually move.
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

What I like about those pictures is how smart/new/clean the bikes look. Well apart from the chains, that is ...

Indeed. That's what inspired me. Apart from the rusty transmissions & in some cases unshipped chains, all these bikes look perfectly roadworthy, down to having air in their tyres. Definitely not suitable for the dead BSO thread, so I thought they should have their own.

Never ceases to amaze me just how quickly this happens to bikes left outside even under cover.

Brown and very slack. Also sporting ridiculously narrow bars (no space for brake levers, but that's ok - no brakes ::-)).

That's a work of art.

I'm off to Amsterdam next weekend. I expect to see some spectacular examples there.

The one I posted above was spotted in Roskilde. I suspect it may have been in the fjord for some time!

This one was found last summer in our garden, when we decided it was a good time to rebuild a very old stone and concrete staircase.

We ended up with a chainset, a chain, and only one pedal of what was probably a child's bike. Fortunately, no remnant of the young rider followed!
