Office chair gas-lift replacement ?

Anyone done this?
Plenty of videos on youtube, but although I can get the 5 leg base (with the castors) off the bottom of the cylinder, I just cannot get the cyclinder out of the seat of the chair.
In the past I've not bothered because they've just been cheapo chairs, and it's as easy to replace the whole thing.   But now I have a nice(ish) one with a fubared cyclinder and nothing else is as comfy.
Has to be said its a few years old - maybe 6 or 7, and with my weight on it on a daily basis it seems to have welded itself in place.
