Eat more sausages.

Clearly the "chosen" fuel of long distance superstars!  Do they have proper sausages in the US?

They have things called "links" which may or may not be the same thing.  Sossidge-meat squished into patties and fried seems to be more common though.

It makes my journey from under the duvet to the garage door much easier to man-up to. Once I'm outside, the whole prospect of a cycle to work, whatever the weather, seems such a simple and straightforward one. However, where the true steely resolve is required is the getting outside bit, and just knowing that TG has already been underway for a couple of hours inspires me to not even consider the car.

Except the bit about the car.  I no longer have one in Brum.

I check my nexus in bed.  At 6:30 he's already ridden further than I'm going to today.

Today, the Year 1 class looked at Steve's website and decided that it looks like he is going to be riding a very very long way.

Oh, and we had to work out what is bigger than units, tens or hundreds to be able to work out how to read just how far :D

I ended up sticking to my original planned ride yesterday, despite the weather, rather than take a shorter bale-out route home.  Thinking about Steve being out there for much longer in worse conditions helped me to convince myself to do the full route.

I'm doing a lot more walking. I can't say Steve has inspired that. I would do more cycling but I'm still concerned that my calf muscle is protesting.

Buy some ski gloves (similar to Steve's) , so my commuting in the cold weather will be more pleasant.

Well, Steve helped remove all excuses, so I have ridden further this Jan than in any other year.  Only 852km, but that's a Jan record for me :)

I also have a pair of Schwalbe One Tubeless tyres waiting to be fitted :)

Roll on feb!

I rode every day in January. Not far, and certainly not fast, but every day.

At the cafe this morning, when they asked if I wanted a small or large sausage sandwich, I replied "large".

As I work my way through a series of PBP qualifiers, I will take a leaf out of Steves book. At evety opportunity I will be munching  on sausage sandwiches at checkpoints instead of my usual bacon.

The other thing Steve inspired me to do was jump out on the bike in the cold wind on 31st Jan, to bring my monthly total up to above his January daily average.

When awheel, I often find myself thinking about Steve (and to a lesser extent Kurt) and comparing my situation to how I imagine his might be.  So when my foot is cold due to the wind, I wonder whether Steve is having the same problem.  Or when I read my calorie burn or HR I scale it to Steve's situation.  It's an unreciprocated connection to another human being and their existence that I suspect will stick with me long after 2015 comes to an end.

To go chasing after the illusive TG yesterday with PAC. Would have met up with him if we had known his route. We kept stopping looking at the track and then making the wrong guess as to which way he would go.

Still great fun all the same and made a change to the normal club run when at least one person knows where they are going.  ;D

I have had sausages two days in a row. We had them at home yesterday, and some more at our daughter's house today.

Just for a change, for lunch we had beef stew.
