Etrex 30 -prompts from GPX file
« on: 06 August, 2014, 10:34:11 pm »
A friend with a Garmin edge (I think) inputs a GPX file and I think by selecting 'navigate' can get prompts on the screen, ie white arrows at junctions. Can I do this with an Etrex? All I can get is the magenta line. I note that when I select automotive mode, the magenta line is thicker!

Use a route, not a track, and 'follow road' navigation.

Creating a route that takes you the way you actually want to go is something of an art.

If the file is a Track, no.  It's a feature of the Edge that your friend has.
Kim is also right (as usual).
when you're dead you're done, so let the good times roll

ps use BaseCamp to create your route and send to the 30 it will work much better  :) and don't disconnect the device until it's absolutely completely finished communicating with the device or else it'll likely not do anything when you fire it up;

if you do it all properly and Caerphilly it will navigate you with all the arrows  :) but you may well need a map of some sort on your pc to plot the route

ask me how I know this...

Now that I know it is possible with a route, I just have to work out what settings to use. I usually set to recreational but no prompts with that.
