Perms, BRM & SR
« on: 10 August, 2010, 06:13:03 pm »
I started this season late... well July... but I was hoping to do the last 600 on the calander namely the Spa 600, but I have been booked to ride the Burgess Hill Rumble by one of my pals. I was wondering if there are any 600 perms in the NE of England that qualify for BRM status and can be used for pre-pre qualification for PBP next year...  Presumably a 600 perm would qualify for SR... That would leave just a 200 to complete an SR

Any suggestions welcome!

No UK permanents are BRM.

PBP pre-qualification is a misnomer.  Doing BRM rides (of a particular distance) in 2010 simply allows you to enter earlier than riders who did not do it.  Preferential entry might be a better way of putting it.  It is not a condition for actually doing PBP.  I believe a BRM of at least 400km ride is all that is required (not a full SR series).

Your options would appear to be:

Aug 21 - Mytholmroyd 405 - (AAA 6.5)

Aug 21 - Mytholmroyd 403

Aug 28 - Droitwich 606

See Doing a SR in 2010 for PBP

Next year a full SR series is required to qualify. The longer BRM distance you do this year, the earlier you are allowed to pre-register.
Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. It has been too many days since I have ridden through the night with a brevet card in my pocket...

If you want to ride a 600, then it'll have to be a perm.  If you're starting from NE England, you may be best off with a DIY perm, as the only proper perm 600s I can think of around here start at York or Mytholmroyd.

You'll should be ok with a brm 400 this year, there should be no problem with getting registered for the ride at that stage of proceedings.

As above, there's no BRM in Perm or DIY rides.

However, if you're looking for a NE'ish 600 for an SR, I'm doing Bernies Long Flat One this weekend as a perm starting in Doncaster and wouldn't mind a spot of company.

Cheers for the suggestion Seldom, but the thought of doing 600 this weekend after doing 400 last weekend would be too much... I hope the weather gods are kind for your 600... PEACE!

I have a Spa Link 600 Perm with Controls at Scarborough, Harrogate, Buxton, Woodhall Spa and Leamington Spa.  So, if you live in or near any of those towns, or between 2, you have the makings of a 600 Perm.

If you've done a 400 you should be fine for PBP.  According to the AUK site's progress graph, 365 people have ridden a 400 so far and while there will be more than that by the end of the year, 287 Brits rode PBP last time and by no means everyone who rides a British 400 will want to ride a French 1200.

As for your SR, if you want to ride a NE perm 600 I might be interested in joining you if you like.  In addition to the rides Deano mentioned, Andy Corless has some rides that look like they cross the NE region and organisers will usually allow you to start perms part way round.

Greetings Mr Bunbury...

Thanks for the offer of doing a 600... whereabouts are you based? Are you a seasoned Audaxer? I have to admit 400 is the longest distance I have cycled to date... There is a slight complication... I did a 300 and 400 on my touring bike which weighs a ton or two... I struggled a bit, particularly on the 400... but... I am due to take delivery of a custom frame from Kevin Winter in the next couple of weeks... If all goes according to plan I hope to have the bike built up ready for action in time to do a 600 perm before the clocks go back... I appreciate that there will be less daylight but I do not mind cycling in the dark... not sure how all this would fit with your plans...

there is this one http://www.randonneursmondiaux.org/30-Calendar_2017.html for 1200s and above
for shorter distances, not so straight forward I think you need to go to the sites of the individual countries.
so if you know which country you are interested in you can follow the link here
