Today is NEXUS-6 N6MAA10816's expiration date. :(
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."

He was that scary bloke in, erm, that one about the serial killer intended to put you off hitchhiking for life. The Hitcher (obvs - the Ed). Worked on me and I've not been pulled apart by two trucks.
We always called him Rugrat Hauer in our house.
-
I always thought he'd be immortal
rip

Huh, why did I think he was dead already?

If I'm not mistaken, Blade Runner was set in 2019. A bit poetic that Rutger and Roy passed in the same year.
He was the star of Blade Runner- made the film what it is.
RIP Rutger

Hauer's demise reminds me of how good he was in Verhoeven films, and how much better Blade Runner would have been directed by Verhoeven.
-
I must get around to watching "A Soldier of Orange". It's on a drive at home in the pending list.
-
Think we'll watch Blade Runner tonight.
BTW, apologies to the gent & his homeland: I always thought he was German.
-
I remember him from Guinness adverts.

I remember him from Guinness adverts.
Apparently those made him a millionaire.

Watched Blade Runner as planned. Hauer acted Harrison Ford into a cocked hat. Faint praise - a brick wall could do that - but still, he shines in that film.
All the same, that "off the shoulder of Orion" always makes my inner astronomer wince.
-
His early work with Verhoeven on the TV series Floris gave him an insight into editing. I do like this sequence from Soldier of Orange.

There is always his greatest film, 'Hobo With a Shotgun'
