Have you got the time off to do the Divide?
We saw the Divide trail near Lake Louise and had a drink in the Springs Hotel in Banff where it all starts. Even if you can't get time to do the whole shebang do as much as you have time for in the Rockies. It will trump anything else you do.

I also have good news but its embargoed until Thursday.

Not yet.
It's a open secret at work that I plan to do it come hell or high water1 though.

I've been watching this year's race with interest, especially as a) it looks like Mike Hall is going to take a bloody great chunk (possibly a day, day-anna-half) out of the current record (15d 16h) and b) there's a guy doing it on fixed, and it's reawakened the possibility of having a crack at the fixed gear record.

1 - probably a poor turn of phrase given the events in Calgary at the moment, but ...

Mike may not get the record if the race gets rerouted - looks like forest fires could cause them to divert :(

This appears to be the case - according to his Twitter feed he was rerouted round the Santa Fe National Forest, and around 125 square miles of the Gila National Forest are currently on fire with rumours that all of the National Forests in New Mexico will be closed to all traffic.

The practical upshot is that he won't get the course record even if he beats Jay Petervary's current time. Quite gutted for him - he's be going like a train pretty much from the outset (and his bike's orange - did I mention that? ;) )

He's tweeted about this. Basically he's 200miles ahead but can't proceed. So he's eating icecream and pies.

I started my first proper job for nearly two years yesterday. The pay is crap, as are the hours, but it still feels good. Good employer too.

MFWHTBAB just did his first ever 50 mile ride. He's disgustingly lively.

I did it with him, I'm shattered!

When we got back it was 51.94 miles and I wanted to go around the block to make it 52 miles. :smug:  Arch said No!

I felt good enough to have said yes to a ride down to Pluto and back, with dinner at Naburn, if it was suggested.
In the meantime, no aches, pains or chaffing, and I rode it all wearing jeans, tee shirt, and steel toe boots. ;D

I feel like a proper cyclist now.

I couldn't have done it without Arch, she had the map.  ;)
Seriously though, Arch was very encouraging and kept the pace so that I didn't over do it and burn out.

Only downsides was hayfever and headwinds.

Daughter has got a First in Economics at Newcastle.
Would she like a job? It'd mean moving to central London, & living uncomfortably close to David Cameron, but rather a nice house goes with the job.

It'd be nice to have someone in the post who has an idea of what they're doing.

I left some very slightly negative feedback on an e-survey about one of my regular hotels in Stavanger and got a personal email from the manager today offering me 20% off dinner next time :)
