Audax bird counts?

Anyone else out there count bird species during their audax rides? It certainly eases the hills. I only got 19 on the Gospel Pass yesterday despite going from estuary to 550m, my record being 30. Oh, I think I am the only one, I should perhaps converse more with my fellow cyclists rather than spotting different finches in the hedges

I heard, but did not see, two woodpeckers on the ride, on either side of the road.  I can't remember where now, but it was fairly early on.  Did you see/hear them?  I didn't see the ostrich.

ostrich? owl? goose? Chicken? lots of rumours in the controls yesterday. I too did hear a Gtr spot woody somewhere in the Forest of Dean, 20+lapwings on the way to Usk were the best of the day for me as the usual egret nr Pant y Goetre was absent

I don't count, but I do take note of what I see (and hear - mainly owls and woodpeckers).

The most spectacular bird-spottings in my audax career to date have been a very noisy dogfight between two crows and a buzzard over Marlborough Downs, and a barn owl majestically swooping low over my head at dusk somewhere in southern Kent.

Other noteworthy sightings include assorted peacocks and on one occasion a flock of guinea fowl that were wandering about in the road.

I've seen ostriches too - but does it count if they were on an ostrich farm?

I do a lot of birdwatching when touring. Especially on hills.....

Last time I rode an audax, I noticed that there were several buzzards circling above me as a rode alone and well off the back.

I think they were expecting me to die.
