Yes, I am now in possession of The Baton after what could probably be described as a Silly_Bike_Adventure. When people say they read maps like a girl, I am that girl. Luckily some sound advice from Boab and Chris got me home again! Riding through the lanes in the dark is something I haven't done very much of (my commute is on two main roads), a good experience, lots more wildlife (hares, bats, various large birds, a deer...) and very few people.

I would put in a photo if I knew how to do it!!

Anyway now I have the Baton and will be bringing it to Mildenhall for the WARTY. Who wants it next!

Photo chain looking good, see chain

The idea was that it gave YACFers an excuse to cycle and meet others.  That seems to have worked.  One day it may get to JoG but there's no rush....apparently.

I think we're missing a photo of the handover to bobb but yesterday evening at The Wheatsheaf in Writtle bobb handed the baton to me (I'm on the left):

The deed was witnessed by токамак (in the background pretending not to be involved in such silliness) and the photo was taken by Huggy who may be along in a minute with a better snap.  A mate of The Mak and bobb's turned up whilst we were chatting and asked "What's that piece of wood?"  When handed the baton and told it's story, he was suitably impressed   Clearly a very fine fellow.

The plan is that I will hand it to Huggy during the course of our 200k ride on Saturday.  I am more chuffed than is reasonable to finally have the baton in my possession  ;D

I think Nutkin took a picture of mine and Bobb's Baton handover on the WARTY.

It seems to be going south again.....:-)

As requested by OD, here is another pic of the bobb-OD baton handover.  We all donned our red yacf jerseys, although mine is obviously behind the camera  ::-)

There may or may not have been a screech of tyres in the background as my camera flash blinded the oncoming driver

I think Huggy's shot does proper justice to bobb's cool hair.

The baton has now relocated less than a mile up the road in Witham but we cycled 203km to do it during a DIY Audax  ::-)

Actual handover occured in Dalham, Suffolk
EDIT: Is this one of the most gratuitous rides to handover the baton?!?

Who wants it next?  :)

The Baton is currently in my care and will do the rounds of the MEMWNS reprobates for a bit until it moves on elsewhere. I could take it on Teethgrinder's 600 at the weekend, though...

There may be some photos somewhere.

And here they are from the MEMWNS ride out to coast at Heybridge Basin where JenM, Tomsk, Huggy and OD (on photography duty) were in attendance.  What started out to be a reasonable early autumn ride turned in to a very wet one, after some time to dry out and a couple of beers later the first handover was made from Huggy to JenM......

.....and almost milliseconds later was passed on to Tomsk who looks like he was ready to make a Usain Bolt-esk dash back out in to the night

Excellent!  I think JenM may hold the record for being Keeper of the Baton for the least amount of time - it must have been in her guardianship  for under a minute!

An option might be for you to give it back to me and I will give it to one of the bods doing our 600 DIY which starts a week on Friday (at 0700hrs).  Or if you fancy an early start you could meet us as we do the Witham > Braintree > Finchingfield leg.  In fact, I think bloomers and chief could be starting from their neck of the woods so they might be passing very close to you.  Just a thought.
