it's to have as many YACFers meet for a beer/coffee as possible

Beer? I want the baton back for a re-handover. I had to make do with coffee on both occasions. I didn't know we were allowed beer

Just one beer? Hell, I'm going on a five day, three continent bender for my handovers.

Man, oh man - we're on page 23 and haven't even got to the start yet?

it's the warm-up before the main event :)

Exactly, this is the Prologue.

I think handover frequency will increase once we get it to London and other big conurbations.

Remember that the aim isn't to get it to JoG as quickly as possible, it's to have as many YACFers meet for a beer/coffee as possible, using the relay as an excuse for a ride.
By the time the baton reaches JoG this will be a thousand-page thread encompassing several hundred varieties of beer.
Riding a concrete path through the nebulous and chaotic future.

OK. I've added a pin for me in Ramsgate -- beat that for South-East-ness.

Can we get it to Andy Gates in time to start and accompany him on his LEJOG up as far as Chepstow?  We can then take it on the Gospel Pass before it perhaps went on another southerly ramble prior to making its way back to Chepstow for the Bryan Chapman.

It is probably a bit late but I will cycle to the start of the gospel pass so if it can make its way back to Bristol by Friday night, it can still do the Gospel Pass!

Just an idea
Some people will be trying to do some Longer Rides in the coming months - in anticipation of going to France to do Another Long Ride watch other people on Another Long Ride so if aforesaid baton could be passed to someone on, for instance, the Bryan Chapman Memorial, it could travel from Chepstow to Menai in a very short time indeed. And indeed, even back again. Which would sort of fit in quite well with the daftness of all this, and life in general, in fact  ;) :P
Besides, it wouldn't be audacious if success were guaranteed.

If it waits long enough I'll take it on my LeJOG in a couple of year's time.  ;D
It is simpler than it looks.

It's the sort of thing i'd like to take on our Lowestoft - Ardnamurchan tour, but I have a feeling it will still be west of the Tamar when we set off in 5 weeks' time.

I don't have a baton but I do have a Clanger. (a bean bag type toy about 4" tall) Would you like to take it and Drop a Clanger?

::-) I rescued it from certain deth on the road to Battlesbridge.

If it hasn't moved northwards by April I will have time to get the train down there and ride it to LE and then the next handover myself!

I was planning on popping down to LE this Saturday for the Grand Depart, then dropping the baton back into Penzance, from whence John Morse will transport it all of 15 miles to Sunny Camborne.

From there, the plan was to take it back up Somerset way via a DIY 300, but i'm sure John wouldn't mind if someone else wants to pick it from him sooner.

The stage from Kernow to Somerset is now sorted, courtesy of jm1, the wonders of YACF's PM facility and good ol' BT landline phones.

Ironically, I will be in Cornwall the weekend immediately after its arrival here at PP HQ, but it will be available for midweek or Saturday transfers to AnyOtherInterestedParty w/c 28 March, in any direction broadly East or North-East from here.

So... the baton's been on a brief sojourn to Lands End, returned to PZ, and it'll shortly be heading for Camborne.
