Double fud (same place):

In case you can't see from that, there is another van behind the double glazing van this time, and the cars are also two deep.  Please note that that is a different B*W Wankpanzer. ::-)

Here's a classic from Union Street, Southwark, this morning.  Verrrry busy cycle lane both ways at rush hour.

That bollard with the sign on does indicate the middle of the path.

I know he was delivering to a nearby shop, but there was room to park out of the way.  Hilariously, as I was putting my gloves back on to ride to work, the driver came round his side of the van, and flung the rear door open into the path of a lady cyclist.  She just swung round the end of it without blinking (I might have said summat) and carried on.  It is very fortunate that, there was nothing coming the other way.

daft parking by Daniel Cadden Photo, on Flickr

Daft parking! Only way past this for anyone in a wheelchair, pushing a push chair or wheeling a bike with shopping on the handle bars was walking in lane 3 of a 40 mph dual carriageway facing traffic.

It would be tempting to take the pushchair over his roof...

I've many times been tempted to do similar - usually over bonnets, sometimes with a can of paint.

It is not unknown for vehicles parked in that manner hereabouts to develop a flat tyre at two diagonally opposite corners  :demon:

In the distant past I've walked over two cars parked blocking footpaths but cars are getting taller and I am getting less flexible and slower at running away from irate owners (the crumple zones tend to accumulate footprints). I don't think I'll be doing it much in the future.

Carrying a tyre valve tool is an easier option.

Reminds me of my boss in Epsom who had an E-type Jag & could never judge the bonnet length. He parked upto the wall of the drawing office & a dull thud announced his contact with said wall below the window cill adjacent to my drawing board. Most days ::-)
One morning when he came in I asked if he wanted me to hacksaw a couple of feet off the front end of his car. :demon:
As a reward I was relegated to the manufacturing unit in Andover for a week ;D

I sometimes think this sideways parking is not so much a way of getting into a small gap as an attention-seeking ploy. "Look at me, I've got a trendy tiny car!"

I'm new to this thread but I'm wondering if anybody else, when confronted by parking like these examples, folds the mirrors* in and lifts the wipers off the screens ?
I hope that it's not just me.

At some time in the near future, I'd like to find some stickers that say "Selfish parking" to be placed at driver's eye level on the windscreen. Obviously the stickers would have a very strong adhesive and a very weak substrate. A4 size would be about right.

*One did come off in my hand. I felt the appropriate amount of guilt.

Apparently this lot are soon to produce stickers.

Save yourself the pain of having to watch the whole trailer (though it's quite amusing, in its way), and skip to 2:00ish for an alternative take:

Why is this twattish?

From a cyclist POV, it seems ideal - no door zone created (unlike all the others) and forward facing for a safe exit. The occasional snout sticking out may remind cyclists to stay out of the damn door zone created by the rest.

The only downside, I suppose, is that if everyone did this there could be twice as many cars.

What if they parked nose-in, so had to reverse out? Would that be a greater or lesser danger than the door zone? My guess is lesser, because although the driver's vision would be restricted, you can be more confident of them looking while reversing than while opening a door.

That's "more confident" in relative terms. Make it "less unconfident" if you prefer!
