Though if ye Portingals had converted that free kick they got when a colour-blind ref failed to note who had actually handled the ball the Frenchies might justifiably have been very miffed indeed.  Except Thierry Henry, who would have probably laid low and said nothing.

The Portugals only won one match but carried the cup away.

However they are England's bestest ally ever, so who cares!
It is simpler than it looks.

Excellent!  If there was a plan to crop Ronaldo, it backfired.  Ronaldo's demise denied us the chance of a spectacle.  We were cheated!

Or, put another way, proved unbeatable.

Well, one good thing about it: a home win is always a boost for the reigning politicos, so Hollande should be feeling even more shit this morning.

... but still worth it.

Indeed. One of the Beeb's moronic commentators - I don't know who either of them was - made the comment that it was a perfectly understandable mistake and therefore was of little consequence. The other one had the presence of mind to remind him that it might just decide the outcome of the European Championship.

I'm sure there are a million more like this, but I'll get in first:

Must say I thought Ronaldo was disappointing during the tournament.  During the game one commentator said they thought Portugal would do better without him and maybe they did!

Maybe, though he scored a couple of crackers against Hungary.  I just felt Payet deprived us of the possibility of seeing him turn it on in the final, or being contained legally by good defence.  I'm surprised that more fuss hasn't been made about the way he was taken out (except by God, naturally!).  I've only seen one replay of the incident but it seemed to me that Payet deliberately piled into his knee.  If it was an accident then Payet needs glasses, which from his general play he eminently doesn't.  I'm not a fan of Ronaldo (or anyone's) posturing but I like to watch skill and he has it in buckets full.  I can only think the lack of reaction is because he is generally reviled - or because I'm wrong about the tackle.

I thought the entire tournament was disappointing.

England needed just to be average to win it... and they completely failed to be even average.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.
