This Is Not a Tour (TINAT) 2025.
« on: 06 April, 2024, 01:41:40 pm »
After a couple of false starts, and the fall-out of Covid-19,  'TINAT' will return for 2025. Provisionally the dates being over the week end of  May 30th - June 1st. (Yes, I know that's 3 days)

The plan is to hold rides from 100km up to (a new) 600km. And the cycling to finish early on the Sunday afternoon,  so everyone can enjoy a social gathering afterwards over a pint and a roll. This may necessitate some rides starting at odd times, but this is also in the spirit of the events that Mike not only rode, but also organised.

Sadly, some of the controls used in the past have not survived the effects of Covid-19, and this will (to a certain degree) influence the routes selected for the week end. However the core routes used in 2018 & 2019 will remain.

So, depending on your chosen distance, you will get the chance to ride the mountain road from Ffair-Rhos through to the Claerwen dam, the "mohican" road from Cwmystwyth to Llangurig, Bwlch-y-Groes, The Devil's Staircase, Gospel Pass, various other gravel tracks - probably the highlight being from Bryn-Gwyn to Hafotty-fach, and many other memorable sections.

If your into purely 'plug & play" 5-star pampered cycling, these events may not be for you, but if you want a challenge both on the bike and in the mind, the stage awaits you.

There's a dedicated Facebook group 'This is not a tour', submit a join request and have a look at the photo section to see what awaits.

There's also a website, this will be updated accordingly - but you'll get the picture https://tinat.cymru/

and more pics etc on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/tinat.cymru/?hl=en

This sounds so compelling, probably what I miss most from the UK are the Welsh roads, I probably need to start training now!

There will be Welsh roads  but there will also be lots of off road bits too. The 600 samples plenty of 'off-road', from Snowdonia in the North, down to the Brecon Beacons in the south, and plenty in between to. The othe other distances (400, 300, 200 & 100) pro-rata too.

Welsh roads are not what they were.
The views are still the same, but the surfaces seem to be closer to parity with England now, is this the levelling up we were promised?
